Hello.
Haven't been on here for a while, my sister is having trouble with her S3.

She was driving it and it lost drive. She said she couldn't get a gear but managed to get reverse to park it up.
AA came out and said she's lost 1st and 2nd but the others are ok.

Is it the gearbox or are there any common issues?
Selector forks etc?

Thanks

Selector forks is the issue here... common problem I'm afraid

<tuffty/>

Aye it's the selector fork for 1st and 2nd. She'll have all the others.
You can repair the selector fork but you'll need to get into the gearbox to do it.
They did a TT on Wheeler Dealers where the bolt holding it together was replaced for about 50p but the work required to get to that would be expensive to carry out.

Having said that, used gearboxes are a ******* roulette and there's a lot of ******** out there selling ropey old ***** so worth getting a known good 'box refurbed as labour to swap out a box is a mission.

EDIT: Speaking from first hand experience as per my signature.

Hey jim
Let me know how much you are charged if u take it to a garage as im also currently having the same issue it will be ibteresting to see the price difference for a simular job between 2 different garages
Cheers

I also saw the wheeler dealers that was mentioned, I think I would tackle the job myself if it happens to me, not too terrible a job if your confident. Also an excuse to fit a new clutch at the same time.
