What have you done today?

Swapped my DV for a new P revision.

I will reserve a special place in Hell for the designer of the Audi crimp-clips. Turned a 10 minute job into nearly an hour (i have a crap toolbox).

I don't think the outgoing DV had any issues as such, but just wanted to do it as its easy access and as far as i know, the outgoing DV was the original.

Test drive (with next doors kid riding along cos she likes the car "wow, look at that engine!"), no real difference that I can tell. Pulls nicely, but S3's never really seem quick to me (as standard), but more deceptively quick. No fuss, but you're soon doing 70.

Then, wash and second coat of Zymol Carbon wax.

Washed the Cooper S, cos it looked shabby next to the 12 year old Audi.

Washed the motorbike, cos it looked like I could start to plant things on it if it had anymore dirt.

Next sunday, the big cam-belt service and Haldex oil & filter, using the Motul oil service kit I got with the 15% discount code from this lovely forum.

I love the vw/audi pipe clips, they make everything so much harder! Especially when they are upside down.

Today i think i signed the beginning of the end for the a3. Started looking for a mk1 caddy shell, which whill have a 1.8t dropped in and quattro running gear and become my toy. (not the gear from my a3 though, it's too tidy to break) Whereas me and the missus are going in together to look for a 8p a3 oil burner

Ordered v3 tip from Bill.

Ordered cambelt and haldex plus usual service parts for this Sunday's mission.

Also ordered a load of Poorboys detailing bits, as my stocks are running low.

Am trying hard not to track down and buy some TTRS alloys. I like the slightly dished ones.

Hello guys I wonder if you can help I need to do a service on my audi it has 200.000 on the clock what's the best oil for this engine? Cheers

So, yesterday was the big service day. Bought the car with 96k, and having checked with Audi, no record of a cam-belt!

With the assistance of a very good mate, we :
  • Changed the cam belt, utilising OE belt, water pump (plastic impeller disintegrated as it was removed), and £96 damper,
  • new rear discs and pads,
  • removed front pads and copper greased the pad rears as the front brakes were squeaky,
  • 4 x NGK Iridium plugs,
  • 5 litres of Motul and new OE filter
  • new OE air-filter,
  • fitted Badger 5 turbo intake pipe,
  • cleaned throttle body intake.
Had a false start on Haldex service, as we didn't have the part required to make the filter removal an easy job. So, when we do do that, rear diff fluid and gearbox fluid will also be changed.

I'd been taking it really steady driving the time-bomb that is a car well overdue a cam belt, but was able to really properly rev the car more after the above.

Biggest improvement must go to the Badger 5 tip being fitted, as the car really revs well, and pulls much harder now. A bit of a teething issue with fitment that will hopefully soon be resolved, but despite that, car feels stronger and sounds nicer than pre-fit :thumbs up:

Having been all around the car properly, i'm now happy that its ready mechanically for a stage 1, which i'll be looking to Badger 5 to do.

Not much room in an S3 engine bay, is there? Cambelt was lots of fun (for my mate, thats a grade or so above my ability!)

Just picked up my car after having a 3" catback built for it. (already got dp/decat) sounds awesome, you wouldn't notice it on tick over or light driving, has a nice grunt when you boot it though. Will put a video up later

Changed oil & filter on Haldex. Ended up buying the part to remove the filter from amazon for £20.

Next job, resolve the nearside headlamp failing to level properly, and fit new side & main beam bulbs, followed by headlamp refurb with 3M kit.

Slowly ticking the jobs off. Car is running really well now, and really enjoying the S3.

Replaced the rocker cover gasket pain in the *** job to do. Then changed the clutch bearing and gear box oil and started to take the interior trim off so I can retrim the saggy headlining tomorrow.

I want to change my rocker cover gasket but keep putting it off, thought it would be a matter of cover off, replace gasket, cover on, nothing is ever that simple though...

My downpipe gasket is blowing and throwing up P0171 so need to change that asap

Real pain to do on mine as I had to remove the inlet manifold I should of done it when I changed the spark plugs as I had to take the manifold off to get at them. I would suggest doing both of yours at the same time there is so much more access when the inlet is off it is a fiddly job so make sure you give your self enough time also have some degreaser handy mine was real messy so gave it a good cleen up you can't see it when the covers are back on but I know its done. While your rocker covers off have a good look at your cam good way to see how the car has been treated if its a older one like mine but luckily I had next to no wear and no flat spots so not to bad for a car that's done 175000. Good luck with yours mate any problems send me a message.

Fit r32 arb's yesterday, and the well overdue clean today!

Fair enough, just becareful braking from high speed and hitting a dip/bump, you will have a brown pants moment as the back end tries to snap away!

Had a quick play with my wi-fi Vgate ODBII. Bought from amazon out of curiosity, and it seems to work really well.

Not really a serious option, but seems to do lots of stuff, and can clear codes as well.

So, having done a 0-60 on a damp farm track (private land), 7.5 seconds, max boost 19psi, calculated engine power 244hp.

Think the power may be optimistic, though it did feel quick. That wasn't a dumped clutch, but fed in and then full power.

Fun little thing for £25 :)

Can also compare against our cooper s, which felt quick before the S3 arrived....not so sure now.
