Is there anyway to equalize the volume between the DAB radio and the FM radio? I listed to Capital on DAB but in my area there are a few spots where the DAB signal isn't available and it automatically switches to FM. Great! Apart from the fact that the FM radio is far louder than the DAB! So I have to turn it down a good deal. Then when it switches back to DAB I have to turn it up. Unfortunately it's suite patchy so it's a bit annoying!

Is there any hidden setting I don't know about that normalizes the two?

Thanks

havent noticed this a problem myself. i wonder if its capital radio broardcasting at different levels compared to the stations i listen too

Odd, I don't notice any difference in volume between FM and DAB. All I get is a slight bubbling noise when it switches between the two automatically.

I get this.

Mine also doesn't change station when it goes out of range like my 8p used to.

Have'nt seen anything in the settings about this though.

There has been talk of Capital seeming to be loud on FM compared to other stations. This has been the case for decades. Ditto for Radio 4 seeming to be 'quiet' even taking into account that Radio 4 is more spoken word. I notice both of these and it's not limited to car stereo systems. It's specific to Capital and on FM.

If you try the same DAB to FM rollover with another station like Absolute Radio then suspect you won't notice a volume change (just a quality change when they mess with their bitrates). It's just a 'thing' with Capital on FM.

Do you mean DAB to FM or DAB to DAB when changing MUX/ensemble/L or whatever they call it?

Go to your sound setting when listening to DAB and make sure 'alternate Frequency' is ticked.

When it rolls over from DAB to FM you will see the station name but with (FM) after it.

John.

On a similar note, what about matching media and DAB volume levels. Big difference here (in favour of DAB).

Hi John,

The radio does switch from DAB to FM automatically and I was acknowledging to the OP that I also get this annoying change in volume.

My other issue is that in my 8p when driving to Glasgow the radio used to change automatically from West FM to Clyde 1 when it got out of range. In my 8V it just goes from West FM (DAB) to West FM (FM) then just goes to fuzz once out of range. I have to change to Clyde 1 manually.

Ah, maybe it is just Capital then. Shame as that's the only station I listen to! :)

OP - email the Chief Engineer at Capital - explain there is a difference in output level between their FM processor and DAB processor, and this causes problems in cars when they auto-select between FM and DAB.

I don't tend to use media - I generally have my iPhone connected, and that has an option on the settings menu to change the input volume so you can match it to the radio. Is there no similar option for media?

(Edit: for 'media' above I meant SD card, as I realised after I posted that the iPhone is also considered as media)

Thankfully, I'm middle aged so it's Radio 2 all the way! lol. Unless Vanessa Feltz is on! Then its Capital or Radio 1!

Doesn't appear to., How are you connecting your iPhone? AMI or bluetooth?

I connect via AMI. I've just done a few checks - the 'input level' option appears on the iphone settings menu when used with AMI and via Bluetooth. However, via Bluetooth the sound level is significantly quieter - I couldn't get it remotely close to the radio volume even if the input level was turned to maximum. Via AMI matching the levels is easy. I then checked with the SD card, and there's no 'input level' option there, so it's impossible to match levels with the radio.

I tried a USB stick into the AMI port - no level matching there either. Thanks for checking and testing though - I'll spend the time looking through VCDS and see if I can see anything suitable there.
