Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

Get those buckles level! Looks messy at different heights!

As for the gear lever. An extension ought to sort that out without resorting to going under the car.

I have been looking at them, but it's going to mean cutting a thread in the existing lever. None of the ones I can find are clamp on in any way, all threaded extensions.

My gear throw is so short anyway I can't see a 4" extension making it any worse than stock.

Yeah man that's totally understandable, I copied them off George for exactly that reason.

You know, they're £300 A PAIR. And that's delivered with double locking runners and side mounts?

If you want any help fitting them then ask Prawn, because I haven't got a clue.

I have to say, for 90% of people wanting buckets in an s3 these are a no brainer.

Sure, you limit your market for resale of stock seats by using the subframes, but I think the cost of these more than makes up for that!

They were so easy to fit. They sit nice and low. They're very solid, and there dead easy to remove / adjust too.

Also worth noting I didn't damage / remove any of the stock s3 seat mounting hardware either. Would be a half hour job to whip these out and refit the stock seats with no visible signs.

Just a thought what impact do these new seats and belts have on your insurance?

Absolutely none.

Insured through a specialist company who proved fully comprehensive cover without any questions of exactly "what" modifications have been done as long as they are road legal and as long as the power doesn't exceed 300bhp.

Try brentacre. They operate a very similar policy with premiums based on a power cap and free mods within this limit.

I think he's ordered a genuine version of the cheap tat he has already.

Which is a shame.

because it's not very nice, even if it were real
(Mine's flat now btw ;) )

That one he has now is a nice wheel. Don't kill me but to me it looks a bit out of place. Perhaps more suited to a Ferrari 512 or Lambourghini Miura but each to their own! Some don't like the alcantara RS4 one I have.

I just ordered 5L of Millers CFS 10w60.

Dropping the oil on Thursday, considering changing the PAS fluid too.

Need to decide if I am going to order some new brake pads or not too. :/

Wish I could even fit an aftermarket steering wheel. You can't decrease the number of airbags here. So lame. That would include the two in the seats :(

Australia sucks.

A 320mm wheel feels lovely, just about right.

It the TT Competition wheel smaller?

Haha yeah for car modding it's pretty crap. The weather makes up for it I guess. Rust is rare.

Yeah I like 320mm wheels, I had a Momo Corse in that size in my old 205 and it was way better than the 350mm.

Yeah the TT 240hp job had a similar wheel to the RS4. I think it was just a different shade. Essentially the same thing. Alcantara can be a bit annoying though. It makes your hands sweaty pretty easily and that has a knock on effect of making the wheel dirty pretty quickly. It looks good but that's about it. I'd quite like a flat bottom from the newer car but not sure on the airbag stuff.

8L airbags are only two wires, the 4 pin plugs for the airbag are two black earths, a brown live for the horn and a blue live for the airbag.

There's that European guy who has fitted one, maybe PM him?

10w60. Interesting how does your car get on with it Jardo burn less oil? I'm debating wether to get 10 or 5w40 or 10 or 5w50 to try

It's not in yet. But my car doesn't burn any oil anyway.

I don't care what anybody says, regardless of quality 5w oil is too thin for an old high mileage 1.8t.

My car used to be chattery as hell from cold on 5w, put a 10w in, lovely.

From cold it sound ok, but warm at part throttle it sounds knackered.

Whilst this is a terrible video to show what I mean, listen to how cammy and top end growly my car sounds warm, when giving it some -

Ah yeah I see what you mean. Mine is the same chattery on cold. So even though the 10w is better why does it sound terrible part throttle? Still better than 5w though? is that why your trying the 10w60 to eliminate all chatter on start up and part/full throttle...

I know that going from 5 to 10w went a long way to making my car run and feel better when cold.

Up to temp I know there is a lot of slack in my engine, and my head sounds really noisy.

It doesn't when it's cold.

Also, lots of high revs deteriorates oil quickly. Thicker oil will cope with the high revs and higher temps of track work.

Ahh I see. I'm a newbie to engines really and have a vague idea of oil temps and so on... Isn't there a middle ground to get both feeling and sounding ok on start up and higher revs? Im guessing your car and you can cope with a little noise on higher revs as you know the oil is thicker so will be better as you said, I'm gonna give 10w50 a whirl then and see how I get on instead of the 5w50 I was going to use. Here goes nothing.

Take a look at Comma Motorsport 10w50, It's what I use in the track car.

Can be found for £40 delivered for 10L, so 2 changes worth. Seems good to me.

Probably not much help but in the 28k I have done in my car, I have only used Halfords (Comma) 5w40 Fully Synth and that's been fine. Engine still sounds smooth.

Mines really really close to 150k, had been thrashed for the past 5 years that I know of, done trips to the ring, numerous track days, multiple drag days, has 50bhp more and a relentless so it's all top end and most importantly been owned by me.

It's not been looked after like yours has :p

Just ordered a pair of Silver Project adjustable top mounts, debating some 034 subframe mounts.

Got all afternoon Thursday with the workshop to myself, so I will absolutely have the DS3000's fitted then, the oil changed and hopefully I will fit the top mounts then too if they turn up but we'll see.

I also ordered a Turbogauge, which seems like quite a cool bit of data logging equipment and it stores 300 hours of driving data.
