which iPod classic?

Evening all i have posted this in the audio section but no reply

my 57 plate S3 has the standard audi HU (not RNSE) i can't remember if its the symphony or chorus. it has the iPod integration, it has the dock in the glove box that takes a few different sizes of iPod. i have a 2nd generation nano and it works perfectly with the radio, it charges and fits in the dock nicely. the problem with the nano is that it does not store many songs (4gig).

In the audio handbook it says you can use an iPod classic so I'm after the correct iPod classic that i can leave in the car and it will charge when plugged in and fit in the dock too. can anybody tell me which generation of iPod classic will fit, as there are about 6 generations!?

with regards to the cable i have tried that and it did not charge, although it will charge my iPhone from the wall. something to do with the pins are different for the later iPods/iphones

There are multiple inserts for the glovebox dock so you can fit different iPod models. If you don't have the inserts you can get the lot of them from Audi. You should be able to use any of the standard iPods. I'm using a 160gb iPod Classic (6th gen.)

Ok I will call tps and order some. Does your 6th generation charge when it's in the dock?
