With so many cars being stolen what is that we can do to improve our car security?

Anyone considering having a kill switch installed?
Is it possible on the 8V with advanced key?

Veeight? work your magic lol

Um, it would be self defeating putting the info on here now, wouldn't it !

It would be self defeating 'if' you choose to advertise where you live and where your car is.

A kill switch for the OBD port is a better idea perhaps. It wouldn't stop them smashing your window to get at it, but they'd fail to do anything else (including disabling the alarm)

I wouldn't bother.

if they want it they will make sure they get it.

You mean something to kill the person driving off in your car? Not sure that this would be legal.

haha I wish!
I mean a switch to disable the car, you'd have to manually switch it on before the ignition would ignite.

So a switch that the thief wouldn't know about until they'd damaged the car by getting into it then, maybe out of spite, torch the car because they were annoyed, yes that makes sense.....

Why not just hide a switch to disable the fuel pump or the accelerator pedal!

When I did an engine conversion there was 4 wires for the fly by wire throttle and by putting a switch in place you could disable the throttle!nor same again but using the fuel pump

I've decided to bulk up and doing a spot of Boxing in preparation for my S3.

Already have a house alarm but these the security mods that will be in place:

Bollard on drive
Disklok
Garage door Jam (on drive)
Additional bolts for rear door
Patlock for rear patio doors
CCTV will go up (wiring already done, long overdue anyway)
New led spot lights front and rear
Window bolts on kitchen/landing/rear bedroom and front bedroom 7 windows in total

All in all will be around £500 but most need doing nevertheless

The Audi Cobra Track 5 is all you need after you have taken sensible precautions at your home. You will be contacted before your car gets further than a mile or two from the place it's removed from. Following a police report code the car will be immobilised when it next stops. A good torch should be considered when driving your car. A Maglite 4 D cell is what you need. It's not classed as an offensive weapon but is more effective than a police truncheon.

One argument I read on here on a regular basis is how you wouldn't want the car back if it's been ragged, driven across fields, etc.
Well, perhaps if your car's a 15 year old Corsa or similar that may well be its fate. However, your car isn't. It's a lovely new S3, or even better, a 184 S-Line. It's being stolen for export. It's going to be driven down the M5, M6, M1 etc. very carefully, obeying speed limits and traffic lights as it goes. The thieves don't wish to draw attention to themselves. Therefore, stopping the car in a timely and controlled process is all that's needed. Hence the tracker as identified above.

And for the ones who take it for a joy ride, thrash the hell out of the engine, smash up the suspension, burn out the tyres, scratch the crap out of the car then dump it somewhere in a good enough condition to be returned to you? Doubt I would want it back

What is the install and yearly cost for Cobra Track 5 ? No price info on their website....

To make myself crystal clear, for those who need it, the people who come to your home at 0100 to steal your keys and remove the car from your drive aren't joy riders.

Trackers are fairly useless these days I thought, they can disable them pretty quickly.

Too right mate. Wouldn't want it back.

Mate of mine had an RS4 taken from his drive in the middle of the night. Police found it 3 months later, re-sprayed with false plates and had apparently been used in robberies. Just because they are coming in the middle of the night does not mean the car is on its way to a container.

Of course they can Nawaid. However, the likelihood is they are after the big bucks. It comes down to the risk/reward ratio pertaining to the crime. If all you want to do is roar around the neighbourhood and finish up depositing the car in the local duck-pond you would be rather moronic to risk the bird. A few might.
It's a bit like arguing the motorways are the safest roads in the country. You can then await someone chiming up that their mate was killed on one.....
