Hi all. Just thought I would pop in and say hello, I have just put a deposit on a 2008 3.0tdi Avant, in silver, Le Mans trim. I am hoping to take collection on Friday.
The gear box is fine, your 6 speed auto isn't the box, that'd be the 7speed CVT auto
The swirl flaps when the fail won't termnaite your engine, you will just have to have the linkages replaced between the motors and the flap units. These are £9 per side +vat +labour to fit.
MMI's aren't common to break, they're usually pretty solid. The issue our chassis suffer from is the rear washer jet pipe, they split, **** washer fluid over the MMI control unit (n/s/r in the quarter)
There is a warranty update for this pipe work though Audi
Timin chain jumping, that's down to the tensioner failing allowing the chain itself to jump. I believe this was on the early 3.0tdi units as found in the A4 B7 chassis
I hope this info has put your mind at ease a little, and your slightly miss-informed mechanic doesn't need to scare you further.
Tom
It could be one of 2 things, first is to check for water in the left hand side of the boot behind the cover, as the recall is to fix the pipe that runs along this side of the car and ends up poring water all over the AMP and radio modules causing £££ worth of damage. I would check with Audi regardless to see if this work has been done.
The other know issue is the pipe breaks in the rear wash wipe unit filling it with screen wash causing the damage and it will need replacing, but this fault is not covered by any recall.
When you try to use the rear washer can you hear the pump running? Do the front washers work as they share a common water supply. If there is water in the tank and the pump is running then it may be a simple as a blocked jet, but also worth checking that there is no water dripping out the bottom of the trim on the tailgate in case the pipe has popped off in there. Finally check the front passenger carpet for damp. On pre-facelift cars there was a join in the washer pipe there and the pipe can come apart. This is important because the bluetooth phone module is that area and if it gets wet it will probably fail and need replacing. Hope you get it sorted quickly, but as you bought it from a dealer probably best to get them to look at it as soon possible unless it is the blocked jet or lack of water so there is no question about them begin responsible for fixing it.I have just had a look and there is no water or sign of damp in the MMI/nav compartment. (in the boot)
Sounds like a blocked jet or maybe the pipe is being trapped in the hinge areaI can hear the pump and water is coming out, but barely, just a trickle, no damp in the footwell carpet either.
