Hi, just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 and now, when I connect it to my car it is permanently initialising as to opposed only a few seconds when i connected it up prior to the update

Is anyone experiencing this? And do they know of a fix?

Regards, Grant

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I updated my 4s last night and this morning it just connected as normal to the AMI - no problems whatsoever. I wish I could say the same about the update itself - it failed and I had to do a recovery mode install & restore from backup. Fortunately I'd taken a backup yesterday morning.

Have you tried rebooting the MMI?

My MMI done that Grant! i replaced the cable which fixed it (so i thought) but then it started again and turned out to be that the MMi control unit failed. it got worse and worse until nothing worked! took 2 weeks to get it replaced as it was on backorder from factory!

I vaguely recall having this issue last year with my new iOS7 update. I think I ended up resetting the iPhone and resynching with iTunes before it would work but I can't say for sure. I think I'll wait for you to find a solution before I dare upgrade my phone!

ios updates are worse than Microsoft ones, many are complaining that Apple filled their phone with free music they didn't want then they had to free up space to get the update to install...

I am still baffled why people buy apple iphones other than to sell to stupid people. Great marketing from Apple which fools sheep/fashion victims.

The iPhone 6 spec is 2 years behind android phones, retina display is laughable as almost all including budget android phones have a higher resolution display. Android phones are mainly plastic for a good reason - metal and radio don't mix too well hence why iphones are susceptible to call drop outs

The iphone 6 is barely any better than a moto g 3g - which you can get in asda for a recently reduced £60 or the 4g version for £120, lol

as for the iPhone 6 plus - pointless - much lower spec than the Samsung note 4, not writing capability and £200 more, lol!!

one of the reasons why, after the frustration of having an iphone 3g, I defected to android - shocking customer service, nightmare updates designed to brick your phone so you have to buy a newer iPhone

android isn't perfect and your old phone may well be using an older android but at least you can still use it years later

Well, as I said in my earlier post, once I completed the recovery mode install, and restored from backup (which is a lengthy, but straightforward process, as it involves re-syncing everything from iTunes) everything was fine with the MMI in the car.

I'm not going to engage in the Apple vs Google debates as they're as pointless as the Microsoft vs Linux vs Apple ones used to be, but I see no reason to hold off updating as far as using the iPhone with the MMI is concerned.

Re: Comparing Apple vs Google is just like the tedious DSG vs Manual threads on here.

And when technical specs start getting trotted out, it's like watching schoolboys having a wall p1ssing competition ;)

As far as the vast swath of the consumer led general public are concerned - technical specs don't come into it, just witness VHS vs Betamax.

It's all about being seen with the correct badge ;) It's why some people drive Audi's ;)

For the third year running:

And the anti-cool brigade can always have their technical specs to console themselves with :)

I'm baffled as to why you think you have the right to call me stupid ;)
