Whilst at a BCA car auction in Blackbush today, i noticed a 59 plate S3 go through for 18500 under the hammer (so about 19200 gross).
11460 with an 8k service by Audi. 1 owner. Ex lombard finance/fleet car.

Is that a good price as 95% of prices paid where way OTT and made private sales in Autotrader look cheap. Eg 2002 A3, 1.6 56000miles, SH, £2835 total !!!! Madness!!

It's full of mug punters (judging by the look of 'em to) who would happily pay over the odds for your car. The trade must be rubbing their hands in glee as are getting retail value on a sold as seen basis ;)

Was gonna go this auction soon! Thanks for the heads up. On a side note anyone know of any good auctions?

Up North is better value. Blackbush is far to Jo Public..

EDIT : if you are trade then its not really worth it but if you are buying private you may get a good price now and again but generally the savings are not what they used to be, simply because its all far more transparent today.

Bump.

I'm thinking of going the auction route when I take the plunge....

It can be hit and miss - but if you catch it on a good day, as a private buyer bidding against dealers, you can bag a good deal...

When looking around them before the auction starts undo the maf sensor but leave it in location so the engine light comes on like someone did to me with mine, even though I know a decent bit about these and I know Statllers very well it still give me the twitchy bum just in case the one I was bidding on had something more serious going on.

Then again when they drove it to the bidding hall and announced that the engine light had come on at least 8 people walked away because they didn't want to take the risk.

Savvy!

You can also bung the driver to pop the bonnet and look worried to the same effect ;)
