Hi
I have recently bought this car and am very happy with it. When I got the car using the radio on FM there was a full list of available stations that I could select. I understand this is dynamic and does it automatically.
I have changed the Sat Nav disc for one bought on-line which allegedly updates the system to 2014 and to allow speed camera warnings to be displayed.
Since I have updated with the new disk the stations on the radio have disappeared and are now replaced with Greyed out ones and others that look like a foreign language or hieroglyphics, none of which can be selected. I can only now listen to one station at a time which has to be selected manually. The sat nav appears to work ok but I have yet to see a speed camera or be warned of one.

Have I screwed the RNS-E by installing a bogus disc?

Please can someone who knows about these units give me some advice.

I should point out that the unit now does not recognise the old sat nav disc

Thanks Marty

Sounds like the sat nav disc has corrupted the version and location information - which is why it won't recognise the original disc and shows gibberish for the radio station names.

Any ideas on the solution as I kinda guessed that myself!
Thanks

Can you not reset the system to the default settings, or perhaps delete the radio stations and get it to re-scan for new ones.

Re speed cameras - you may have to enable them in POIs list to show up on map display. Not aware that system can warn of POIs though.

If you do have corrupted the firmware then perhaps borrow a proper 2014 dvd and see if it will overwrite the dodgy files - it may at least get your rns-e functioning properly again.

One of the adaptation channels, I *THINK* it's 97 when set to 1 will force the firmware to be reloaded from the DVD. So insert a genuine DVD into the drive then set channel 97 to 1 and reboot the RNS-E (press and hold RADIO and SETUP).

It can't warn of POIs - that's what makes these modified DVDs IMHO a complete waste of time and money.

Have to agree. The old rns-e just isn't that dynamic. It's an ok satnav but the traffic related re-routing is about as modern as it gets.

On a positive note, I have finally managed to produce a backup dvd that actually works.....which is nice ! (Used Nero and verbatim dvd+r dl 8gb dvds burnt at slowest speed possible).
