I am wanting to de-lock my Audi A3 drivers door, and want to know how to go about it? On my previous car it was as simple s taking the lock barrel out and smoothing over it with metal. But the audi has the key barrel in the door handle, so a little different what I am used too.

Can anyone whos done this help me, thanks ad tell me how

Thanks

Not done it myself but cant you just remove the lock barrel and fix a blanking plate from the passenger side in its place?

Why on earth do you want to do this? It's a mod that has no benefits but potentially major negatives.

i dont agree, but see your point, its about securing my car and the valuables inside it. i want to make it as hard for thieves to break in as possible. i know the doors on the a3 arent overly too hard to pick

As you'll know,if you make it difficult for thieves to pick the lock, they simply smash the window....which is usually the chosen method of access for nicking things in any case.

i already have security film on my windows, so not so easy to break the glass

They would just beat the sh** out of the door, if they want it they will damage everything to get at it, I would agree with Staz the negatives out way the positives

Wasnt there someone on here who had the door lock area damaged (below the handle), looked like it was opened up using a tin opener, cost was quite high if I remember

Or they would just bend the door frame then causing damage to the door shell it bolts to.

My experience of this is they pick the quickest, easiest method.

When that fails, out come the bricks and in goes whichever window is the easiest, including the front.

By all means delock it,after all it's your car,but I don't think it amounts to a useful anti-theft measure.

well the car is alarmed (not that that would stop and thief getting in but at least it alerts me). end of the day its better for me to secure it than not secure it. and im aware of negatives like getting back in if the battery dies, but ill have some charging post hidden away i can get to charge if the battery dies.

Interesting that you're doing this as a security measure, I thought it was purely cosmetic. As others have said, they'll get in anyway if they want to.

Charging posts are all very good but what about when you're away from home? Which you'll be for maybe more than 50% of time when you want to unlock the car.

What about if the battery dies in your key? The charging posts will be of no use at all. And you won't always have the spare handy.

It's a real shame that you feel you have to take these sort of measures to protect your car. I'm glad I live in a low crime area and I have a garage too. If I didn't I'm fairly sure I just wouldn't bother ever having a nice car, it's just not worth it.

I'm suprised so many think its OTT or not really a very useful measure of protection. My 2nd car has been delocked about 7-8 years with no issues at all.

Also got 2 keys so not an issue as such of battery dying on keys. And both keys are in different but close by places held by family members.

Granted theives will get in if they really want to but when my car last got broke into, they had to bend the door and smash the glass as the door was delocked, at this time I didnt have security film on windows. So they got in through the windows. bending the door didnt help them too much. but in all that it delayed them and nothing was stolen, although the car was damaged.

Could you not get a passenger handle from a continental car as I assume they would have that side already delocked?

I thought it was because you were going for the smoothed look, not for added security. As others have said they will find a way in one way or another, making it more difficult and more time consuming may deter potential thieves however.

Thats exactly what i think ill do

thats exactly my point, it does deter, in my area they only try for a few seconds then go, thats the point most are missing

Do they have a barrel on the tailgate ? I am sure mine hasn't so if you remove the drivers barrel aren't you removing the only key entrance on the car ?
