oil in drivers side footwell

Hi guys, bit of a weird problem with my 2001 1.8t, whenever i lift the drivers matt, there seems to be an oily substance on the carpet, sort of like baby oil :asskicking:

can anyone think what it could be?

Could it be a previous spillage? Perhaps the recent heat is bringing it back up?

clutch or brake fluid?? coolant from a leaking heater matrix?

+1 Had similar issues few years back on 80 coupe, was coolant loss from heater matrix. could be expensive sorry ..:sadwalk:

Heater matrix is passenger side I think

Matrix is passenger side... its most likely brake fluid from the clutch master cylinder

hmmm doesn,t smell like brake fluid. I dunno, last thing i want to do is rip the carpet up. Also the rear wiper doesn,t work, can the hose split under the carpet?

Check the fluid levels first, have you had to top up any fluids?
