I'm going to look at a B7 RS4 one thing that's set off alarm bells is that the carbon engine bits are missing? Never seen one with out them take it they were not optional?

So lost? Stolen? Or are they easily broken by ham fisted mechanics?

What jobs require their removal? Any of the normal service type things?

Cheers

to my knowledge they are easily replaced. I saw one on ebay a few days ago actually also.

They were standard. Could be broken off I guess, but don't know there's much need for them to be removed unless they're doing cams or something.

You can certainly get second hand sets online, or go to argon creative and get a full set of engine covers in matching grey carbon (the OEM ones are sort of yellow).

Cheers for the replies. Just don't know that I should bother with a car that the add claims is excellent and well maintained when there is obviously lost or broken bits during careless maintenance. If they were really fragile I might have overlooked it.

Sounds like the owner isn't very knowledgeable, makes you doubt his/her other claims too.

Go see the car but be prepared to walk away, a good B7 RS4 is an absolute joy but a bad one is a money pit.

The idea is to go see and not buy unless it's perfect.

I'm between an RS4 and going back to an Evo (this time a 9). Quite prepared to walk away seen a few money pits in my Evo days.

There is no reason apart from alternator belt or a decoke for the front piece to be removed. The rear carbon cover ( the larger 1 with the 4 rings ) needs to be removed to change the engine oil filter, so every oil service ideally. They are quite robust items and if removed correctly then they shouldn't get damaged. Both carbon covers should be removed vertically with no forward or backward or side to side movement. Each cove has 3 plastic pegs that press into rubber grommets.

I have a spare set here if you buy the car and want them.
