Hi all,

When I had my Leon Cupra R I found a small company based near Northampton that specialise in making diffusers and splitters for Fords. I spoke to them and mentioned about the interest from Seat guys and after putting my car in there for the weekend and taking a few other Leon MK2 owners with me, they have made and sell model specific splitters / diffusers for Fords and Seats. They are now doing VW and Vauxhall and after talking to them again last night they are interested in the Audi's and specifically the A/S3

The company is called TripleR Composites and their website is; Triple R Composites | Body Performance Parts | Specialists in Ford, Seat & Vauxhall Parts and facebook is; https://www.facebook.com/pages/Triple-R-Composites/247344178667911

Check out the gallery and prices and you'll see that you can get a splitter that has been researched, designed and created for a specific car model for less than £100 - they also do carbon fibre for circa £300+

Now - the reason why I am asking for genuine interest only is because I will travel to Northampton to meet Kev and the guys once more and leave my car there for the weekend (cheeky weekend away with the missus is always a good'un!) and let them develop a front splitter for the A3 - the issue is - I have an A3 2010 Black Edition and my front bumper looks like this;
IMG 2058

Similar to the S3 and clearly different to all the other 8P models!

So I would like to know who is interested in having a splitter developed for this model of A3 - once successful - who then has an S3 and other variants of A3's that they would be able to drop off for a couple of days to Kev in Northampton whilst he and his team make one (p.s if you drop your car off you get the splitter for free)

Let me know your thoughts please and here are some examples of their work:

S3 here.

Definitely interested in this, and maybe could you ask if they are interested in rear diffusers.

They are interested in rear diffusers as well - but want to get enough interest in regards to requirement first. The diffusers are harder to make that's the problem. They do 2 options - diffuser "fins" that are shaped and you fix yourself - or a whole diffuser like the S3 / RS3 ones (complete piece) but of course the only options that would / could work would be a whole piece.

Yes...I thought that would be the problem.

A whole new diffuser, with deeper fins would be the ideal, and I think a number of people might be keen on that.

I don't forsee it being a problem for them - check out their FB page and look at some of their development products - namely the whole diffuser for the Leon MK2 - its a big bit of kit! as that black bumper bit on the Leons MK2 are big! I reckon they would use the S3 and RS3 as templates and then make their own.

That sounds very interesting.

If you can ask them,I'd be happy to volunteer I think.

Im pretty sure that (as per the RS3 and S3 diffusers at present) its the same size and doesn't matter whether its a 3dr or 5dr? So they would make one to fit a 3dr and then a 5dr to be sure.

Need to get a lot of interest and then get the ball rolling.

I'll go for it even if it turns out to be a one off I think.

I messaged them about making a front splitter for my 8P3 Sport and they said they wouldn't make them for A3s. This is my sport bumper

I am interested in a front splitter if they were to make one :)

They will make them but they need a car to work on for a few days and then need to make sure they have enough interest before investing in making them. So lets say it costs £2k for the time to design it, make it, patent it, get everything all right etc... then they sell them for £100 a piece they need atleast 20 to sell before they clear their costs. So they will do it if the interest is there. That's how and why they are making loads for the Leon MK2 guys etc..

Kev has said to me that he and the boys will do it for our cars and I will give him my car for the weekend.

That sounds like it could be successful on here then because their work is the best !
The only query is have is the difference in our bumpers. Say a splitter is made for an S Line, would it fit a S3 or standard sport bumper ?

Most likely not - hence why we would need a series of cars to go there for them to make it. So I can take my S-Line black edition in, someone else takes an S3 in, someone else takes there sport in etc.. and once they have made them all then they can sell individual ones to whomever wants what. As soon as the development piece is done and they have constructed the moulds its pretty much just supply and demand from there on out. Just need the initial research and design piece done first.

I am interested and have a 2009 Black Edition so same bumper, keep me posted on development. Assume it will be similar style to Leon and price.

So this just fits under the S3's front bumper ye? Only thing id worry about is hitting speed bumps as cars already been lowered. It doesnt hit speed bumps atm but maybe it would with this on?
Im tempted to go for one tho so put me down!

+1 interested. I have an s3 8p2 I could drop it off if no one else can.

I'm from Northampton and have an 8V sportback. I'm interested for them to make a developed front splitter!

+1 Very interested in this! Will follow the progress for sure.

Seem to be getting some interest which is good! I will speak to Kev and see when I can get my car down for development - most likely end of the month. Plus once that's done will see if we can get an 8P S3 down and the 8V lads too!

Quick update - Triple R are shut / on holiday for end of June to early first week in July. Looks like I might try and grab a weekend in July for them to do the R&D on the car.

I could likely get mine up for the S3 side of things if you let me know when etc,and can look into a splitter and diffuser.

If they can dish up something fairly aggressive for mine then it ought to be easy to tone it down a bit for other builds....along the lines of their Ford time attack type splitters.

LOL...and thank you.

I was thinking that if they can put together something like the Time Attack one they do for the Ford, then cutting it down would be less of an issue than trying to do it the other way around.

I've also been thinking of how to get at least a semi-functional rear diffuser, and this seems to be the best way forwards.

Also been thinking of a flat underside, like the BTCC regs allow,so your find is a great one.

Just have to hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as the carbon one I had on my Escort.....the car had a steel sump guard and diff guard from it's rallying days, and I swiped a dead badger one day....the splitter cracked but held up and there was no sign of the beast after.
The sump guard had got it.

I would be happy to provide my motor for development also if it was needed

It is the 2004 A3 2.0 TDI S-line

Quick update guys - spoke to Triple R - they are very busy with doing a lot of stuff for the Ford show and a few other shows this summer but have provisionally said that mid-late August they will be happy to look at getting the car(s) in for development. Realistically it will take a 4-6 weeks before these are being sold off the shelf. Kev explained the process to me and it seems to be the patent that takes the longest time. Normally a couple of days per car to design a splitter (longer for a diffuser FYI) and then once that's done they will make and trial fit etc.. then they need to get the patent, design the mould, then production.

This wont be a short process so I just want to let you all know. I will keep you updated on the progress. The quality of their work is outstanding and the price is cheap - reasonable rather than reasonable - expensive.

Diffusers (as mentioned) will take longer but they would be interested in doing an RS3 style one. But they want to get the splitters done first.

I am looking forward to getting my A3 2010 down there, an S3 and an older Sline style down there too. PM me if you live near Tilbrook Cambridgeshire.

As before,I'm definitely up for this.

I'd like a proper diffuser and splitter,so any time they're ready,I could oblige.

this looks awesome! just liked them on facebook! Will keep my eyes peeled on this.

Hi...any news/updates on when they might want to start work?

out of interest i have a 2009 sline quattro with the original posters same bumper design , what are the splitters going to be made of ? grp ?
or pu plastic also how is the diffuser going to fit over the original , looking at the rs3 front bumper you will notice that just under the front grill the bumper is extended downwards slightly with 3 slots cut out . this is the way it makes the bumper deeper .
it would have to be an absolute perfect fit or there is going to be some re-modelling to the original front bumper needed plus there is also going to be a line showing where the new piece extends

but if it looked good and fitted perfectly i would buy one as long as it isnt grp ..
bought one for the a4 2008 face lift model fitted like crap when put up against the car , still hanging from the roof of my garage cost me £160 for nothing , ive wondered a few times would it be worth chopping it alot to make it fit onto the a3 .

I haven't got an A3 but i know from looking for a dual diffuser for my A4 b8 sline rear diffusers are very limited to whats available so could be a nice little gap in the market

Hi Guys, sorry for the delay on my part, I have been away for a week on holiday. I will catch up with Kev today to see when he will be free and then we can get some cars down there ASAP! I need to know who lives near Tilbrook? i.e Kettering, Northampton, Cambridge that would be able to drop their car down to Kev for a couple of days (maybe over a weekend) Ideally an S3, S-line (facelift) and then the later S-line / Black edition one (same as my 2010) all for front splitter designs and then later for rear diffusers.

Please PM me ASAP if you can take your car down, what model you have and where you live.

Cheers

Guys - Triple R want to get things moving along now and wonder who can meet with them in the not too distant future to discuss requirements. I think it would be good if a couple of us went there at the same time so we can all add valuable input into the design and manufacture - it also shows some good / high interest.
