Hi All, collected my A3 today, love it! I received the red MMI cable for my iPhone and iPod- the one I understand shows album artwork.

But when I play songs it shows the name and artist but not the artwork. It just shows the list of songs in that particular playlist. Anybody know how to make them appear? Have looked through the settings but no luck.

Thanks in advance!

What iPhone and iPod do you have? Only the later generations show artwork through the MMI
D

Does the iphone 4 show artwork?
i have got a blue collar cable, and wondering if it's worth my while chasing dealer for the red collar cable.

iPhone 5. Not sure on the iPod

My iPhone 5 shows artwork on everything, I didn't need to do anything to make it happen. It shows on music purchased through iTunes and music ripped from cd.

It also shows it if I play over Bluetooth even if I use spotify as the source.

It's been a while since I checked the settings (now it's working as I want it I leave them alone) but maybe you need to select the 'reduced display' option to get just the info for the current track + artwork.

As a slight tangent, I'm just using Handbrake to put a TV episode on my iPhone to see if it plays through my iPhone without the tech pack. :)

Hmm mine isn't showing artwork either and I am using an iPhone 5 with the apple adapter, it is only showing a generic pic. Thought it was because I'm using the adaptor but you are saying yours works fine?

I've successfully watched the intro to Game of Thrones on my non-tech pack MMI system using my iPhone 4S. :)

The red collar cable. However, I get ZERO art-work, using the cable OR bluetooth! Just text. That includes tracks on my iphone 4S that I KNOW have artwork and correct ID3 tags.

video but no artwork thats strange - as my iPhone 4S mysterously lost its camera and location services on Saturday looks like its going to be upgraded to an iPhone 5 so going to get the dealer to supply a red cable (was supplied with blue) to get the best chance of getting the artwork

Yep I get all the artwork. I'm using the red cable and the lightning adapter.

Dammit just been out to the car and checked it and he has given me the blue cable not red! I specifically told him I wanted red grrrr 😤

I am going in on Friday to pick up my rubber mats and boot liner so will get him to change it. That said though I have an old 80gig iPod that I tried and it works fine so may even use that and leave it in the car permanently.

Does anyone know it the red cable will show artwork with a 5th gen iPod classic?

Oh well, I managed to get both cables on collection day :)

Did you get these as freebies?

I've not tried my classic yet but I'm pretty sure artwork is a no on it.

I was just wondering what everyone means when they talk about red and blue cables?? Are they USB cables which connect and charge your iPhone to the car??

Under the arm rest is where you plug your phone/iPod in. The cable used comes in different flavours for apple products, red collar for newer iPods and blue collar for old. There are threads which go into much more detail.

It should be interesting to how the new 'iTunes Radio' service from Apple will integrate into the car. I'd imagine it will work identically to the iPod section of the iPhone. I don't suppose anybody knows anything different?

On the Tech Pack only the Blue grommett cable works with the ipod classic.

To get artwork media/settings & tick the reduced display option.

You'll get the artist, album and the individual track title plus album artwork

Sorry if this is answered elsewhere on the forum but should the dealer offer you each of the cables when you pick up the car??? How do they know what you need?

If you upgrade to the Tech Pack, you should get the later red grommet cable, which works fine with later ipod touches and iphones.

Believe you just get the blue grommet cable with the standard MMI

However if you have a 160gb ipod classic, for it to work you'll need the the cable with the blue grommet collar. Needed if you're music has been converted to apple lossless

I had to request the blue cable from the dealer

No use to me, I have a phone that has the standard mini usb connector that doesn't change every time a new one comes out. Will I get the correct lead instead?

micro USB I suspect you mean... don't ask for the mini USB lead as there is such thing, and you won't be able to use it!

Not only that, but according to Audi music interface > Audi Deutschland the classic isn't even compatible with the red cable.

I've got an iPod Classic and a new iPod Nano, and both the blue and red cables.

The iPod Classic works fine with the blue cable, but there is no album artwork. The iPod Classic doesn't work at all with the red cable.

The new iPod Nano works fine with the red cable, including the album artwork. To get the artwork, I think you definitely need the red cable, and a fairly new iPod.

This is how things work on my car anyway. Not sure if things are different with the full tech pack.

Anybody know why you get alternate album artwork ?

I don't mean the generic artwork i.e pop.

For example Sex Pistols Never Mind The, imported onto my itunes, yellow background album art cover also imported.

But when i play it on my Tech Pack via ipod classic i get the album cover with an alternate pink background artwork ?

You can embed multiple artwork files per mp3, probably just showing different ones by default

I think my cables are just black but I get the artwork from a 4S

I got both with my car. Dealer will happily oblige if you ask nicely.

I just copied and pasted all my iTunes music onto an SD card and it all works fine.

if you have Connect it will be downloading them from Gracenote. I've noticed this as well.

Nowt like resurecting a 6 month old post! ;)

I get some Artwork and other albums just have a generic cover, say Jazz. iPhone 5S over Bluetooth and iPod Touch 4th Generation (not the one with lightening connector but the one before) using the connector supplied by Audi.
I recon this has something to do with iTunes!

Mine is the same. You are correct that iTunes stores the artwork in a non-standard format. However, I have changed it to the supported format, as well as resizing all the images to the specification Audi says will work (using Bliss), but it still only reads the correct artwork half of the time.

A bit rubbish on the part of Audi :(
