Hi, driving home today a strange rubbing/slight occasional knocking sound started coming from the front wheels.

It only happens when I'm in drive and coasting. If I put my foot down or brake the noise stops!

In the last few months I've had new pads fitted and the front wishbones front n rear bushes done.

Any ideas please?

Cheers

Jay.

I recently had a small stone caught between the disk and the splash shield. It sounded like I was dragging a pipe behind. I thought that the exhaust came loose. Maybe there is something similar.
Or the disk/s is/are warped and they are touching the pads. Try to notice if you hear the noise only at lower speeds, when coasting.
If it is a warped disk you may also feel vibrations in the steering wheel when braking from high speed.

Hi Johnny, thanks for replying mate.

The noise is definitely only at lower speed and coasting and sounds like the front driver side tyre is flat! There is excessive brake dust coming off of that wheel as well??

If there is excessive brake dust then most likely the pads are touching the disk even when not braking.
As I said before, the disk may be warped. There is also a small chance that the pads don't sit properly. Have them checked and see if they are evenly worn. And I mean check if each pad es worn even on its entire surface. One could be worn more than the other but this is common.

Excellent. Ok Johnny I'll do that.

Thanks again mate.

Jay

Getting the wheel off tomorrow for a check mate.

Cheers again

Finally stopped raining long enough for me to check the car. 1 of the wheel nuts wasn't very tight on the drivers side so I tightened all of them and the noise has now gone!!

Just goes to show , mechanics do make basic mistakes , my dad used to check everything the garage had done as soon as he got home , bless him .
Having said that the cars back in those days were total $h|te , Marinas etc.

Your dad sounds like a wise man mate!

The garage that last had the wheel off was the same VAG 'specialist' that overfilled my car with oil by a litre and a half!!!
