Rear Wiper Motor Removal and Replace

Just replaced my burnt out rear wiper motor. On my A3 8P 2006 Sportsback with one from a MK 4 Golf... This is the serial code for the golf wiper.

I brought the car from south coast and think it was a hard water area as the tubes had got blocked up and caused the motor to burn out and washer fluid to flood the motor and in into the boot cavity, rather than out the nozzle.


As you can see it..looks like they were filling the wash jets up with mud...

Was a pain in the **** to get off but i found the best way was with lots of WD40 and a chisel to pry the wiper arm off the spindle...It is held on by friction and rust:w00t:. I used the chisel to lever the wiper arm up away from the spindle.


I hope this helps as a cheap and fast way to get the wiper arm off. I had read about getting special pulling tools etc..

Ha just yesterday I replaced mine, think it's common for them to block up an leak into motor. An the plastic joints audi use are **** as my bose amp has just found out!! Great way for audi an bose to make a little more money!!
 
I just drilled a tiny hole in wiper arm came straight off and fitted straight back on no probs. only reason I did that is cos motor cost me £110 from TPS and couldn't be bothered to go back an spend £30 for a new arm

Yea AEX really common fault...think your right, couple of people at bose and boshe getting a nice bump from the extra business..
luckily my amp escaped un-touched!
 
My rear wiper is stuck in the up position. I may need to replace the motor but first I need to check what's gone on in there.

How easy was it to take the boot trim off and put back on?
Did you get the golf mk 4 motor for £10.

That will be because the motor has burnt out..or its in service mode?!
If the motors gone it will smell like cracked circuit board(dont know how else to describe the smell)
If its in service mode your audi manual will show you how to get it out.

Taking the motor out:

Two screws located in the inside boot grab handles: remove.... then just pull the trim off. Its held on with 6 V clips.

Motor was £10 from scrap yard.

You will need a 13mm socket to remove wiper bolt. Once removed you need to pry the wiper blade off the spindle.
Fitting the new motor is easy, just play and play.

Cheers for that. Thinking mine might have a loose connection or something.
My boot somethings does not shut properly so I am forever slamming it.
The other day the wiper just stopped in middle and the stalk would not do anything other that squirt water.
Opened and shut the boot and then when I started the engine again the wiper moved all the way to the left. Did this a few times and got the wiper back to the correct position.
Tried to use the wiper again when it rained and it just went to the middle again and that is where it has stayed. Even slamming the boot does not move it.

Only just been through the hassle of chasing the wiper arm a few weeks before!
 
That happened with mine. Minus the boot not closing issue. Sounds like the motor has gone on the wiper motor and its gone into service mode. I have seen other people that have had problems with the boot motor due to water from the washer jet getting into them. Hope thats not the case with you.
MK4 golf motor will def work.

Why can’t I view the images?
 
I have the same issue and although I took it apart n gave it a thorough clean n got everything moving again manually, connecting it up doesn’t work!
Now I’m thinking it’s either the plastic gear wheel or the circuit board cz it was pretty nasty!? Is it worth buying the gear wheel for £3 or should I just buy a replacement for £20!?

Buy cheap....... buy twice.
Get the proper OEM Valeo motor......

Replacing parts won’t stop water leaking into the wheel box, just buy a new motor complete, as above, £50 is cheapest I’ve seen.
