Air conditioning bust, but condenser fan ran all night and killed my battery...

As the title suggests, my air con has just recently broken with two separate garages telling me that the compressor has gone. That's fine as I read up on it and it seems it can happen every now and then, but last night the condenser fan ran ALL night and killed my battery! The only reason I knew it was that was because it was still spinning in the morning before I called the RAC... Being at university that was my only option and they freaking made me wait two hours for a jump...

Anyways, has anyone else heard of this fan issue happening? Every time I turn the car off I'm now paranoid to the point that I put my ear to the grill to listen for the fan running... It's an auto so if the battery dies it has to be jumped.

Also wondering about people's experiences with reconditioned compressor units, my local garage can source one for about £250+VAT bring the total after fitting and re-gas to about £450 inc. VAT (however there is potential for a blagged "student discount"). Any advice is appreciated!

Interesting, might look into that, however usually my car is at home/near home and more often than not I know someone with leads. But always worth preparing for the unexpected I suppose. Cheers!
