Evening all

Got the S3 in to kiwkfit this morning and they re did the gas, however it took a charge but they have said it wasn't any colder, so didn't charge me.

The guy also said this points to the condensor being at fault. Would this be correctm and is there a way of testing it? What else could be wrong? A pressure switch perhaps?

TIA

They normally get the system for leaks by seeing if it hold for 20 mins or so before re gassing, so I think they are saying that there are no leaks, and the problem lies elsewhere.

Im in the same boat with my S3, just brought it however no matter what temperature i put it on one nothing is cool its always hot air and one of the vents it hotter then the other the temperature just makes its mind up, even on low its still warm air !!!

Ive asked everyone, i can't seem to get help on it.

I took my car down to kwik fit yesterday asked them to top up my air con. It's passed the vaccume test they said but then I come to add charge it was ******* out they could hear it leaking somewhere down by the alternator but the couldn't locate where the hissing was coming from.

Mines going to need further investigation. Hopefully it's just an o ring because if it was a crack then it wouldn't pass the vacume test.

Mine has always worked (luckily) but when it got a bit warmer in March I noticed it didn't seem to be getting that cold. I thought, the gas must finally be out. As it turns out the gas level was fine. All it needed was a replacement wire from the climate control panel to the condenser as the current wire had been damaged in the engine bay. Worth a look with yours just in case.

No mate mine is defo a leak they could hear it leaking. But I will check the wire anyway it's worth a check what wire is it and where's it located do you know? I know there's motors behind the glovebox I'm told to check?

Anyone got an etka schematic of the air con system! I've no idea where the components are under the bonnet! Could do with some fault diagnosis before I take it to a garage, as I had my xtrail on today to get a leak fixed and it's costing me £470 !!

I'll try having a look at this too. Do you need to take the front dash out? And where about is the condensor?

So done some more reading on here, and I've checked the fuses on top of the battery, and they are all fine. The one nearest the middle seems to be the one connected with the ac. It seems to control the wee motor in front of the radiator? What is this component called? And I'm wondering where the compressor is? So that I can check if the 'clutch' is engaging. I can't hear any noticeable difference when I go from econ to auto on the ac, when the temp is set to low.

I checked the fuse also in the main fuse box, I think it was labeled as aircon, and something else, a 25amp fuse, it appears to be fine to.

Theres an online version online somwhere.. i'll try dig it up..

Been trying to do some more digging on this...

got on the etka online, handy!!!

and i can now see that the compressor is under the alternator, with a electrical plug on the top of it. Is this he power source for it. Iwas going to see if putting 12v directly to the compressor does anything, or points to any problem.

With the car ignition on and the aircon on, both fans at the front are working, then go in to econ mode and they both turn off. Is this normal?

With the engine running, so as to have the belt 'available' to drive the compressor, i'm trying to hear the compressor and clutch engage but its too noisy and cant hear anything in the car, is this a two man job?

Should the aircon work with just the ignition on and the car not started? if so how does the compressor get drive?

The compressor gets it drive from the belt, via an electromagnetic clutch (that's what the wire is for).To check the clutch is engaging, turn on th air con and look at the centre part of the pulley end of the compressor. It should be spinning. You can also normally 'feel' it as the clutch engages.
