Hi, how much of a bad idea is remapping my a3 2.0 tdi 140 with 184,000 miles on the clock??? Its had a new turbo a few months ago and it has also had a clutch and flywheel done recently. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice. I need to know whether its a completely stupid idea or not.

Thanks,

Matt

I'm slightly in the same boat, my 105k mile PD140 was on the rolling road a few weeks back and made 143BHP at the fly with airfilter and exhaust system so with them figures I figured the engine is in good health for a remap. If your car is well looked after there will be no reason to not remap your car.

The weakest point of those engines is the turbo, and a remap will put a bit extra strain on the turbo and clutch. With yours having these replaced recently then I'd probably go for it to be honest, providing it's been serviced properly and on time.

This is a constant dilemma of mine :( i have the 06 140 tdi bkd.

Iv got full service history, first one at 19k miles then like every 6 months after.

Really want to get a new turbo and remap at the same time but dont know what turbo i would require if the standard one is pants :/

I need to save some money or have a special bday/xmas present lol

Edit- 64k on clock atm

If you want to upgrade your turbo head over to darkside developments website, there's a few turbos to choose on depending on power preference.

Just had that email back from a local reputable tuner that was recommended by a friend with a BMW...

Mine was previously a company car so its been up and down the motorway all its life, and has been serviced regularly. So I will probably remap it. If it blows up it blows up!! :) "YOLO"

Yours is the same as mine. I have 65,000 on it now and a slight turbo whistle. I would like to get it mapped but don't want to then have problems with it.

Is it worth getting the turbo looked at first then a map?

P-torque and reputable in the same sentence, never come across that before.

Oh dear :/ aha performance Torque in Wombourne near Wolverhampton?

A friend recommended checking them out after he was recommended them on a BMW 1 series forum, i thought it all seemed pretty professional so just thought id ask about their maps and turbo issues since thats the reoccurring nuisance lol

Mines at 91K now still pulling like a train, touch wood and going in for boosted remap as i ahev installed s3 intercooler, going to run 1.85 bar

Mine has about 115k miles and has been mapped since ~50k. When ~85k I went for a bigger turbo, plug&play gt2052v and new remap and now it produces ~215ps and 459NM of torque, without smoke.

Just a quick thread hijack is it worth getting a remap and leaving the dpf on iv'e heard it will soot up quicker causing more problems

It all depends on how the car has been looked after, cause my car has had 2 replacement turbos in its life. so its on its third now!! Common problem on the 2.0tdi a3 it goes through turbos if not looked after.

It's got full Audi service history, it was previously a lease car so anything and everything it needed it got.

Just don't want to map it then have the extra expense of a new turbo.

I wrote a detailed post explaining the ins and outs of remapping and effects on the DPF, you should be able to find it.

In short, care should be taken to ensure there is no periods where there is an excessively rich mixture.
