I've had my S4 near 2 weeks now and have a few questions, I wonder if anyone can answer?

S-Tronic... In the service book, it says change s-tronic oil and filter at 38k. My car will need this in about 9 months I think. I was speaking to a guy at Audi regarding service plans and he said the filter didn't need to be changed, even though it says it in the book. He was adamant. Is this right? Should I insist on it when the time comes?

Exhaust - The previous owner was less than loving to the quad exhaust... it's filthy, covered in carbon deposits. I have tried metal polish which has taken some of the minor/moderate stuff off, but I'd like it as close to perfect as possible. Any suggestions for products to use?

Fuel additives - are they just a placebo, or are they of use? I run the car on 99ron (where possible)

Thanks in advance.

My tips were completely brown and baked on when I bought my car, now they are shiny polished chrome.

If there are still some brown marks on there you need a coarser wire wool.
Believe it or not, what I did was smear toothpaste all over the tips, dipped the wire wool into a bucket of water and scrubbed the tips. once the brown stains were gone I used Autosol to polish the tips.

Now they look like this:

I will have a go at that on the dynamik as the bottom part of them are black and the top half is shiny silver, they dont come up with just autosol itself.
Cheers for that :)

I've just had the oil changed on my S-Tronic S4, there are 2 seperate oil systems in the Gearbox, one ATF and one Hypoid, they both need changing and both filters will need doing to as they will more than likely be clogged up.

I've read a lot of posts on different forums regarding this and the general concesus is that failing to change oils and filters every 38-40k will massively increase the chances of Mechatronic failure which aint cheap....

Also worth noting there are gearbox software updates available, make sure you have the most up to date version, improves the smoothness of the shifts and feels better going from D to R and Vice Versa. much less jerky and doesnt feel like the gearbox is trying to escape from the car when you engage reverse!!

Thanks for all the info guys. Toothpaste? Really? I was totally unsold until the last 10 sec where she shows you the rolled bits - that's when mine are bad. I have an electric toothbrush, I'm going to charge it and go crazy at the weekend I think.

Thanks Chris for the info on the S Tronic box. I thought as much. What did Audi charge you for changing both fluids and filters? I have the latest software I think... well it's lovely and smooth anyway!
