I picked up my A3 about 3 weeks ago, sorry will get photo's up soon :w00t: but Im not 100% the service was done at the garage in the sense , the car was meant to have a oil change but I'm wondering if they just topped it up as its black. for something that had an oil change less than 1000 miles ago I would expect it to still be clean,

But anyway, just called the local Audi intendant garage and they quoted £175 for an oil change ... because you cant just change the oil ?

WTF !

is that right ? really ??

What is the best oil for the engine ? will do it myself lol

If its a diesel car, that's perfectly normal to go black immediately after a service.

Thanks for the heads up,,,, is it lol . different cars I know, but I had clear Mobil1 after 9000 miles on my old Insignia BiTurbo ! is there anyway of knowing for sure if it was changed. they deffo reset the computer on the dash ?

cheers

Yea a diesel will change the oil black as soon as you fire it up.

A little trick to help check if your oil has been changed, drive it around a bit to let the oil circulate. Get a white piece paper. Pull your dip stick out and let the oil drip onto the paper. Let it soak up on the paper. The paper acts as filter. If you can see dirty particles in the paper, it may need changing. Difficult to really tell with a diesel, easier with a petrol vehicle.

I also would like to know why an oil change at Audi is so expensive?

Standard service last time for me was something like £159
Oil change was like an extra £100+

I am not trying to justify Audi's cost of an Oil change but you gotta take into account, the actual time to change the oil (probably charged at a £100 an hour), the disposal of the old oil (can't just be chucked down the drain) and the new oil (cost may vary depnding on what type of oil you need/want)

Obviously you can save about 70% of that cost if you do it yourself, which I guess is most of us!?

They have allot of costs associated with running a dealership, training staff, audi specified tools to utilise, courteousy cars, IT infrastructure, etc etc, allot of costs most indy's do not have, so the costs will be higher, let alone making it all look pretty to entice a would be buyer into the showroom, if it was tin pot shack nobody would buy cars from there & audi wouldn't be so maybe a prestigious of brand.

Oil service used to be £99 for a while at AUDI, a price that is worth thinking about if you want to keep AUDI SH - now it's £149 it is too dear to justify IMO.

The cost of the oil to a dealer is low as its bought in bulk wholesale, as is a filter. An oil change on a ramp can be done in as little as 20 minutes. Even at cost to me, a genuine filter and the right Quantum oil from TPS is around £35 (so the dealer gets it cheaper still, say a pessimistic £30), assuming an easy 30minutes job, that is £120 for half an hour, or £240/hr. Nice easy work for the trainees too!

In the US oil changes are done like wiping your windscreen, it really is a simple job and no amount of overheads can justify £149 for an oil change. You'd probably be able to haggle with them anyway, they are often ringing me canvassing for servicing.

Brighton Audi has a stunning blonde in service now by the name of Holly, she's a lovely woman :)

Not entirely & never will as we had/have a stunningly beautiful & the center of my world daughter, the main issue with the ex was her family, cretins of unbelievable proportion, but that's not for discussion or I'd end up walking out of my house & decking the 1st person I see lol.

Well, bringing it back to nicer thoughts for NHN, Holly is as described :w00t:
