Black Edition Wheel paint code

I've used that paint and found that it was too light for my alloy wheels. Ended up buying some touch up paint off eBay which matched perfectly.

I need to to get one of my wheels refurbished, but Audi will not give me the paint code. Found this code after a Google search

You might be better off getting both wheels painted on the one side if you can't get a correct code but most good wheel refurbishers should be able to get a match.

Audi York got me a little touch up pot made up, just looked at it and it has the same code you have listed, plus I have the same wheels.

I have never had to have this done before. The wheel has had a poor repair before I got it, so whilst the wheels are off for winter I thought I would get it sorted. The company came highly recommended and do a lot of high end cars.

He just asked if I knew the original paint code as Audi will not give it out.

Hi Phil-1

The colour code you need for the RS4 type black edition wheels is L3SR and is called Granit.

L8AU is called Titanoptik and is the colour of the rotor 5 arm type and is much lighter.

I did 2 spray out cards today and finished them both with matt clear coat as per spec. The pic doesn't show the actual colour very well but it shows how much darker L3SR / Granit is. This is the correct colour.!

Hope that helps..??

Thanks

I need to get on to him as I have given him the L8AU colour

This might help........

Hi what year is yours?
I think mine are lighter too.

Have left a voice mail with the guy that's doing my wheel so hopefully will get it sorted soon. I have asked him to check before he paints it. I did read that the paint code might be stamped on the inside of the wheel

Here is a poor picture of my wheels

Mines a 2009 car, I like the lighter colour either way....... Never been a fan of black or really dark wheels.

Hope you get sorted buddy.

Ps did you ever get any joy with that ambient light?

Yours is the same year as mine. The ambient light is on hold at the moment. New tyres, wheel referb and an overtime ban is not helping.

That's extremely helpful, thanks.

I'll buy this touch-up paint ready for stone-chips: Audi titanium grey L8AU paint Touch up brush scratch chip Repair Pen | eBay

Hi Guys..

The 2 spray out cards are a little deceiving as its only an iphone pic.... it seems to have made the darker grey look a lot darker than it is. It was just an example of the contrast.!

I would get your spray guy to look at both codes and match to your wheels but I'm pretty confident it will be the darker version.

Ok... I did my wheels yesterday. L3SR Granit which is the darker version. It matched the colour my wheels were a treat.!!

Brendan,

Endless research leads me to ask which lacquer you used out of interest, a satin lacquer , matte lacquer or gloss lacquer?

I've had a set of CK's refurbished with the wrong gloss lacquer which didn't give me that colour unfortunately, as good as they are in their own right. It still cost me £275 to find out that the lacquer is imperative to the Black Edition wheel finish.

Thanks for any info re. the exact finish.

Pete.

Hi guys, Did we get to the bottom of what's the correct code for 2009 Black Edition wheels?
I've looked on ebay at the names and corresponding codes and they seem to be the opposite, i.e L8AU is Granit and vice versa :-?

Unfortunately L8AU isn't the correct colour for mine, however a guy on eBay sells touch up paints, including L8AU. He couldn't find the code L3SR, but repairs wheels for an Audi dealership and has mixed up a custom paint to suit, based on black edition wheels at the dealer, I am told it's quite a bit darker, as mine seem to be. I wil post my findings here once I've tried it later this week.

Hi, sorry to open such an old thread but I am struggling to find the right colour for my wheels. I would like to get them changed from silver to a dark grey (in keeping with the BE). I like the colour of your wheels soulsurfer - so wondered if you found a paint code for this please? thanks.

i brought a bottle of ebay with code L8AU and it matched. although mine have been refurbed in the past with a gloss finish,
