2013 Audi S3

Great vid!

Are those red lights around the speedometer that follow the needle during staging, on all s3's? I've noticed them on the s3's bigger brothers, but just not on the s3 itself. What do they indicate during normal operation?

humm, never noticed this on mine? Are those red dots during needle sweep only on the Sedan or also on the sportback/3dr? Must admit I can't be bothered going downstairs to the garage and try lol :).

I ordered a manual, didn't even consider DSG and I drive DSG equipped cars every week at work.

Choosing the gearbox is no different to choosing the colour, there is no right or wrong option really it is personal preference. I'm a fan of the technology but give me a 'proper' gearbox any day!

Just heard from my dealer today, build week now pushed back slightly to build week 1, should get to dealer end of jan.

Suits me fine as I want a 1st mar delivery anyway.

It must be nice knowing an exact pick up date this far in advance! My cars set to be loaded onto the ship any day now and I still don't know my pick up date!

If it was build week 44 it should definitely be built and will most likely be in the uk by now.

That's good news - I think I ordered mine around the same time as you and started at 9 to 7 and then 8 although still not factory confirmed so hopefully it will come in a bit - I wanted 1st March which when ordered 26th September I thought should be easily achievable so surprised when told week 9

Fingers crossed I get confirmation soon

it will be worth the wait I'm sure anyway

Interesting video, it does look a very useful option - anyone know what the red segment lights part way around (anti clockwise) the tacho indicate?
That comes there when you activate the Adaptive Cruise Control. It shows the speed area were the cruise control can be used, max around 160km/h and then the extra thick(or its lighter) red segment is the speed it has been set on.
And the red segments on RPM show the rev limit.

Thanks for that moffe - from my S3 test drives I remembered the ones around speedo but it was the ones by the tacho that I didnt know - so the S3 has these lights around tacho too?

I just read your post, i just ordered mine and will have it in about a week or so... so impatient by now.
On the other hand, i am impressed by the looks of he interior and the performace sheet, 4.8 0-62? that is amazingly quick.
i have been owner of 3 golfs gti all owned since new and the last ones was an MK6 which had been chipped by revo on stage 1. amazing torque and drive ability , also had a pss10 bilstein suspension in the car which made it rock solid and glued to the pavement.

The other day i had a drive in another car ( same spec s3) and felt even faster than the lighter gti ( chipped) , but not only faster, much much faster, sound of the engine sublime , although theres a little cheating with a speaker inside the car that amplifies the sound ( who cares) , suspension.. i ordered the sport suspension because i wanted to save some cash for the bilstein b16 irc , but now im in serious doubts, the original suspension is so amazing that i dont know if the extra investment is worth it. any advice on this bilstein b16 irc suspension??? ...

the only thing im worried about is that i ordered the panoramic sunroof but realised that the lid that covers the sunroof inside is translucent and in a very sunny day you will have the sun in your head even if closed. some one knows if there is a replacement which is not trans lucid?

Guys, what oil temp do you get in your s3's? I saw mine running at 104*C after a normal drive and it was just 4*C outside... Is this normal?

I still don't know where to find out the oil temperature........? have looked through all the on board menus..........?

104 deg c for oil sounds reasonable. certainly within oil and engine expectation.

water temp should sit around 75 deg C with a functioning thermostat.

it's under the chronometer menu... Silly really. It's that menu on the steering wheel (that button on the left hand side of the steering) then it's under chronometer.

the temp only shows once oil temp reached a minimum of 50 degrees C.

Unfortunately I think you are right. Which is why if I do finally "man-up" and order an S3 it will be a manual version. It might be the last chance I get to order a manual car before they are consigned to history. Personally I think Audi should be applauded for offering the S3 as a manual. It's great to have the choice and it would have been so easy for them to offer it as S-tronic only like they do with some of their other models.

do you not like the stronic/auto? I ordered a manual over a month ago but my build date is week9 so ages to wait. meantime ill test drive an stronic s3 just to make sure my decision to go manual is watertight - otherwise ill change it (and wont I be a hypocrite, lol!!)

Manual every time on a smallish sporty car, much more engaging and suited to driving style. Auto S tronic is pleasant but in my view more suitable for cruisers.

Always seems to be the older crowd that moan about autos in sporty cars, they all sound like Jeremy clarkson. I can't think of a race car that doesn't have an auto or semi auto. The new 991 GT3 yep PDK, yet it completely ruins the driving experience and more suitable for cruisers.... Go figure.

50 in 1 months time and ordered an s-tronic (first auto box too). I was this >< close to ordering an S3 too, but plumped for the 184 diesel quattro. Perhaps that's the older bit of me coming out.... :)

I agree but i'm 40 (not sure if im classed as old, probably to my kids but i'm way off Clarkson!!) and have just ordered my S3 S-Tronic, took one for a test spin the other day - ****** fantastic gearbox and so glad i've made that decision. I drive 20k a year and my current manual drives me nuts quite literally, stuck in traffic jams etc etc, the ACC is also going to come in very handy. Auto's all the way for me from now on, cant wait.

I'm older than arad85 and fail to understand what age has to do with the manual/auto preference!!

I had that dilemma but ive seen pics of the interior lights and thy look worth the £170 and theyd cost a lot more in time and money to retro fit - and even then you couldn't do a full retro fit

led lights aren't cheap but I went for them in the end - new tech and supposedly a lot better than xenon and halogen and should last life of the cost or so they say - plus they are an eye watering £2K option on standard a3's

I added the interior lights and then the led lights

Ended up adding on the LED headlights and interior light option

Just saying that if someone's moaning about auto in a sporty car there nearly always over 40. I think age deffo has something to do with preference. You older guys have been used to manuals been better than auto for 20+ years and the crappy older autos that take an age to change gear and never seemed to be in the right gear when you needed it, which doesn't suite a sporty car at all. But for us fairly young uns on here, we've always known autos to be good. You could get the dsg in a mk5 golf gti like 6-7 years ago, i've only been driving for 8. With the manual function and instant gear changes, pops on up shifts and downshifts autos are miles ahead of manuals these days.

That's interesting because normally you find older people prefer automatics because of health issues...

Your missing the point.

Clarkson, Chris Harris, Steve sutcliff all had a good moan about Porsche putting a PDK in a GT3. Nothing to do with health issues.

The point I was mainly picking up on was "stronic is more suited to cruisers" and literally everyone that says stuff like this, is of the older generation.

Ok, but don't be 'ageist' about it otherwise I will throw me zimmer frame at you :respekt:

I've ordered an S-tronic as it gives you the best of both worlds with driving. Auto for cruising, manual for getting a lick on. I'm 35 and always had manuals in all the sports cars I've owned (apart from an M3 with SMG) and there's been a lot (30ish)!
It's come to a point now where I embrace technology if it makes a car easier to drive faster and safer. Changing gear yourself if you can heel and toe is rewarding, but with the amount of traffic on the roads these days driving quickly is getting more and more tricky.

Some of the excuses for having a s-tronic are becoming more and more surreal. Its got nothing what so ever to do with embracing technology, or using a heel and toe method, or being old, it is just about what owners want. So if you want a s-tronic then fine, if you want a manual then that is also fine but please don't use tiresome rhetoric to justify your choice...

I was sick of using the heel and elbow method...

Which is why I plumped for the S-Tronic...

I was not making an excuse, I was merely giving my reasons for choosing the S-tronic. How can you describe embracing technology as 'a surreal excuse', that makes no sense.

Comrades!

I received a sample alloy from ABT today, this is the 18" but i'm actually going for 19"

I know it's not to everyone's taste but I thought i'd post a pic anyway...

I do love the S3 alloys when they are clean, I think the polished parts really make it stand out, problem is, them parts get covered in dust very easily and the whole alloy ends up looking dull and small...
