For some reason, yesterday my fuel gauge was saying I had full-->3/4 full tank of fuel. It was showing 1/4 previously. As I wasnt sure that anyone filled it up, went to the petrol station and put in £65 of fuel. So it was pretty empty. Is there a way that the car fuel sensor got recalibrated to the wrong amount or something? Is there a VAGCOM was of resetting it to full (now it actually is full), or is it a faulty sender unit or something?

Done a vagcom instrument test, and all the needles do sit in the correct place.

Topped off the tank and made sure the car was on level ground. code entered and will see how it goes! Currently thinks I can do 410miles on a tank. lol!

haha you sure thats not KMs - ie circa 250 miles!!!!

goose

EDIT: DIS said i was getting 8.2mpg at Combe on the 12th - woohoo!

Lol! Defo miles.

8.2 on the track ain't bad! I get less just getting up to any speed normally! ;-)

ok, so done a trip to and from Bristol to my house (50 miles) and I wasnt pottering about. The fuel gauge is still full (usually its over 3/4 tank) and range is still 370miles. So I think it thinks 1/4 tank is full (anything over that is still just full). I tried that code PetrolDave gave - is there any other places that need reset?

With regards to fuel gauge issues, mine never reads full!? Might have to give that fuel tank calibration a go when I get my hands on VCDS. Thanks Dave!

Do you have a quattro? They have two fuel tank sensors, and I'm wondering if one of them is faulty or has a bad connection? See the same link for details.

I do have quatrro (s4). they were working perfect until I did a reset for the bluetooth module install. I got to do about 100+ miles tomorrow. Will see what the gauge says then (will also keep a jerrycan of fuel in the boot!)

I accidentally changed mine to a 2wd setting when fitting cruise and I ran out with 30 miles showing on the dis. Changed it to quattro and its been as it should be, a few litres left when it shows zero.

When you say 'reset' what do you mean exactly?

I've retrofitted several BT modules and after recoding the instruments never had any problems.
