TT Climacontrol & Rad fans packed up

Hi all, im after abit of help with my W reg TT - I recently fitted a after market head unit which has been fine however yesterday i was sat in the car with engine off and listening to the stereo. I then started the car with stereo running and heard a pop like fuse had gone, i lost the clima-control unit so this now is unfunctional and now the rad fans wont cut in (They used to work on high speed setting but now nothing) They clima control dials still illuminate with side lights but i they have stopped working altogether.

I have checked all fuses including top of battery and all fine, are there any other areas that i could look at in addition?

All help will be greatly appreciated :)

I cant recall if fusebox is on end of dash on the TT, but usually 1 on dash end & 1 in engine bay.
 
I have checked them both bud and found fuse no5 7.5amp constantly blowing.

Right, humour me, are you using the climate in filtered air mode or you having it on Econ mode?

I do wonder if the new head unit load if more & shares this circuit with these other systems & when at full tilt as such, popping the fuse.

The solution is not to fit larger fuse as this could cause a fire, the wire is gauged for the load & overheating can have bad consequences, so what's the load of new unit?

When the clima-control unit was working i was using in normal mode (Not ECON) As far as im aware the stereo (Sony MP3 player) is also fine and is now fully disconnected including the loom but the fuse is still popping. I initially thought it could be the central convenience module behind the passenger rear door card as when i stripped the inside of car looking for possible areas causing issues the fuse stopped blowing with this disconnected so i left the module disconnected, but even with this fully disconnected the fuse is still blowing 20 minutes into test drive. Now im stumped and not sure what else to try. Going to get on it again this weekend and see if i can find anything.

Fuse 5 runs:

F - Brake light switch
F47 - Cruise control brake pedal switch/brake switch
F36 - clutch pedal switch
E45 - Cruise control system switch
F129 - Aircon pressure switch
G65 - aircon high pressure sender
J293 - Rad fan unit
E159 - Fresh air/air recirculating flap switch
N23 - Fresh air blower series resistor
E3 - Hazard warning light switch
J151 - Continued circulation of coolant relay
J123 - Bulb monitoring device
E43 - Mirror adjustment switch
E94 - Heated driver's seat adjuster
E95 - Heated front passenger's seat adjuster

nightmare that's a lot of disconnecting to eliminate has a scan been done With vcds I think someone on here sells it .

i would by at least 15 fuses then in case it's the last thing you try

Scan been done, showing issue with oil level sensor and ambient sensor, both are ok and i must have gone through 40 fuses by now trying various things.
 
I would start with brakes/clutch/cruise switches.
 
I have replaced the Clima control unit and tried to disconnected the fan control module but still same, going to get on it this weekend and see where i go.
 
Turns out to be the loom melted from aircon switch on the bulk head behind heat shield & running into the car, need to trace and repair. Wondering if i can unplug the loom and replace for another loom? I have been offered a BAM TT loom but wasnt sure if they are the same?
 
Aha I know that very switch as I had to change mine on the S3 years ago as I had no cold air, of all the things to melt, oh well glad you found it now, how did you see this then?
 
When i went to unplug the sensor i found the wiring to have toastyfied so traced it as far back as i could, from the switch to under wiper motor, along scuttle panel, into the plastic trim then into car. Still need to strip loom to go into car and repair it. Does anyone know if a BAM TT loom will be a direct replacement? Going to replace switch too, are these switches known to fail alot?
 
Wow chance of luck I'd say finding that, just repair it, don't swap car looms over if its just that sensor feed at fault or is it a whole bunch of wires?

The wiring (4 wires could be more) have melted and stuck together a far as bulk head on passenger side, still further melted wiring going into the cabin so thought if the looms are plug and plug id just replace. Main wires i need to trace into cabin are black/blue & solid white.

No worries, I like to track down faults & find/fix them in life, so this was a nice challenge for you lol.

Its not really plugnplay as such, as its a he loom it maybe a hell of a mission, so if its just the sensors wires at fault, I would replace/repair them on there own, if its melted other wires next to, then that's a different story, but he you're on it so allot cheaper than audi fixing it.
 
Anybody have a working convenience module to sell for TT? Have a feeling mine may need replacing.
