Air lock in the system

No water in the header tank that i could see and went to realise the pressure in the tank due to the air lock, it then blow the cap off followed by boiling hot antifreeze

Its something i never do but i didn't think at the time.

2nd degree burns to my arm and 1st to the side of my face

5#it the bed pal,
That look horrible,
I hope there will not be much visible scaring?
Its the little things we do every day that sometimes catch us off guard.

Doctor said it could scar, god i've got scars everywhere whats one more

I still can't believe i've done it, never again.

£90+ is a small price to pay for the filling kit so this doesn't happen again

I never even gave this any thought. I just swapped my anti freeze, left the car to run for a while without the cap on and left it to cool then checked the level and corrected it.

Food for thought though looking at what can happen !

oh man that's nasty. you poor *******.

Exactly the same thing happened to my mum about 15 years ago, her renault 5 overheated, and she didn't think and just removed the rad cap to check the coolant and it got her arm in exactly the same place.

very, very nasty, she still has bad scaring on her arm now 15 years later.

Hot liquid can be SO dangerous, very worthwhile you posting this as a warning.

Hope you heal quickly mate

I just know are cars are a pain to bleed and this is what can happen if rushed or not done fully

It should be a sticky so people don't do it wrong

The laser filling kit is well worth the investment if you wan to get it done fast or make sure its 100% done with running the engine with the cap off

Dude when you told me about this the other day I didn't realise how bad it was!...

Will stick this in the FAQ's under a suitable heading...

That looks really nasty and must say thank you for posting to warn others hope it heals soon

Damn dude, that's bad! Lucky your face didn't receive the same punishment.
Hope it heals well.

**** me that looks painful.

Hope you have a speedy recovery dude.

Looks facking painfull mate

Good thing your face didn't cop it as badly!

Hope it heals well and ASAP :)

****** hell Andrew, That looks seriously painful.

Hope it heals Ok.

I know your not on there much anymore, But I've whacked a post up on the RS2k site.
Maybe pop on and reply. just want to show people what can happen to even the most experienced people.

All jokes aside, you are a very lucky guy, I relaise it may not feel like it just now. Take it easy and get well soon, don't get that infected, it's not worth your health to progress small jobs.

Holy crap! Silly mistakes happen to the best of us though!

I worked on pugs and Citroens for many years, usually three bleed screws on those. I make up a make shift funnel with a 2-3litre drink bottle and a modified header cap.

...and shouldn't you be at home waiting for Parcel Force? :p

LOL...
