Hey guys,

I know the TFSI engines have a habit of drinking oil but I thought that the diesels were fairly solid? 9000 miles and saying I have to add oil, I've never had to add oil to a diesel before and just thought it a bit odd...

Does this sound reasonable? If so what oil is advised (I'd check the handbook but it's a couple hundred miles away...).

Thanks in advance!

Dan

i never mix oil
so id either look in service book see whats been used and use the same
or oil change to be sure

Cool, cheers...

Does having to too up after that mileage sound reasonable though?

yeah thats not bad at all
some need a ltr after 1k miles
its the luck of the draw with audi some use loads some use non
or some use a little

Ah ok, I thought it was only the 2.0 TFSI engines that had an oil consumption issue.

Cheers for that!

I have just added 1/2 a litre to my 3.0 tdi after 6000 miles. All engines use a bit when they are new so I am happy with that.

Hi Dan,

Just passed 7,000 with mine and it needed a small top-up so it's pretty normal I think.

Regarding the type of oil, you want Castrol Edge 5W 30

Never add any oil between services. Never heard any issues with the 3 ltr tdi with regard excessive oil usage.

Thanks for the replies guys. :)

I've added a litre so I'll see how long it lasts. I can understand using a bit while the rings are bedding in and stuff, just never actually had to do it before so wanted to check. If it drinks that oil in less than a thousand miles then I'll have more of a raised eyebrow... Haha.
