Hi all, just recently bought an audi a3 170 bhp 2007 on 103000 miles. Broke down on me Friday with low oil pressure warning light, in garage at the moment and the engine management was switched of 187 key turns ago, fault with air con, and various other codes, which I'm still waiting to here about.
im so gutted. Bought privately so I have no way of getting anything back, tosser I bought it from want answer texts or calls.
HELP ME PLEASE

Hi, What would you like us to do?

How do I stand with help on this matter, ie can I get any help regarding the purchase. Is this car a pile if sh.t ?
just need some good honest advice please

old moto.. Sold as Seen. not much can be done.
Some codes are caused by other faults.
Wait and see what garage find.

Trading standards/CAB can only help if the seller is posing as a private seller and is really a dealer.
Otherwise there is no comeback on the seller, not much you can do really once you buy it. Was it a good price? Some codes may be old and not come back.

£5800, looking around now, that's cheap. So I suppose I should of known better.
but isn't it about time private buyers had a little more help in today's world of scamming assholes

Sorry to hear that bud. It could just be a pressure switch or sensor wait and see what the garage report. Some of the other codes may just be causing each other to come up and could all be related to one fault. Also some codes may be old ones, it may be worth clearing all the codes and then driving it (but only if it is safe to do so) and then reading the codes again.

Good luck.

Thanks for all your advice, fingers crossed to see what the outcome is.
but based on the info I've given, is this something worry about ?

Unfortunately if it looks too good to be true it usually is! Hopefully the repairs will still come in under that of similar age/spec good condition A3`s

he couldnt have known the oil presaure light was gona pop on
as above it could be just the switch
if not its sump off new pick up pipe.

May be an easy fix, might not be. One thing I'm sure of is that once it is fixed you will love the car!

PS if it was a private sale, unfortunately as the seller isn't a dealer they won't offer you a warranty..if you want a warranty it has to be a dealership or a seperate one like RAC/AA etc

Just think if you were to sell a car tomorrow and it was fine in your ownership but 5 miles into the new owners journey home it breaks down, who's fault is it?

yeah fair shout and I totally agree with you, but if you've been seen to have engine management switched off because of issues, you should have a leg to stand on.

but even if that was the case it wasnt related to the oil preasuse
plenty of cars have the eml one and get fixed mines been on about 20 times in a week as i was finding a problem that was electrical

I understand the oil pressure fault, its just the other stuff that's been hidden.
Im an honest guy and have never sold any car knowing there is a fault with out it being sorted first

i dont get you why has it been hidden
it had the light cleared thats what happens when the light comes on fixed and cleared.

Maybe I'm just talking **** as I'm cheesed of with what's happened.
I'm only repeting what audi said, and that was there is a lot of issues with this car, that is why engine management was switched off.
I know zero about cars and I am only looking for reassurance

if there was major problems then the light would have come back on
and audi have got it worst place for it
get the KY jelly ready.

Why is audi the worst place to have it, as in cost I take it

cost isd one part
the other is if they see a code they charge you for the part and fitting even if its something else
not all fault codes point to the problem
find yourself a good indy to look after your audi.

even if he's a dealer, he can sell a car privately with the same regulations as a completely private sale providing the car is registered in the seller's personal details, in this case the buyer would unfortunately have no grounds for defense, "sold-as-seen" loophole would apply

If Audi have it they will nit pick every tiny fault and minor issue with it, they are going to try to get as much money out of you as possible, believe me, I used to work for them! Just pay to get what it went in for fixed and let the service advisor give you the schpeel when you pick it up about all the other bits that 'need' fixing. Then tell them to kindly stick it.

All main dealers are the same, if you let them they will replace every part on the car due to it not being in as new condition.
