Excessive fuel and oil comstion B6 S4

I did my research before buying the S4 so knew of the oil consumption issues and the low economy but Iv just had to fill the car up again with petrol after only 203 miles, since last weekend, most of the miles are town driving but surely that's a bit low? Iv also had to top the oil up twice in the last 2 weeks, I had the yellow min oil warning light come on a couple of weeks back, topped it up and have sinve done around 400-450 miles, today it's come on again, I have 5l of mobile 1 0w40 in the boot so going to top it up again.
This can't be the norm can it? What are other b6 s4 owners getting fuel and oil wise?. What could be causing these issues?.
 
270-320 from a tank, oil consumption can be a bit random with mine though they do all tend to use a fair bit. the hand book states consumption as high as 1 litre for every 1000km (625 miles), oil wise do you know what is actually in it at the moment? i would say 5/30 or 5/40 is what most people tend to use
 
It's got mobile one 0w 40 in there at the mo, Iv done another 50miles in it since filling up this morning and Iv used a quarter of a tank, I honestly don't think I can justify keeping it with this kind of economy :(
 
1/4 tank should be approx 70-80 miles, what kind of driving? If you're hooning around or driving round town it can easily get into the teens
 
Iv been using tesco momentum 99ron. Topped the oil up yesterday and popped out with the mrs just now and the oil min warning light has come on again! I checked the dipstick and there is ****** all on it, it was hot after a 30min run though, I'm not 100% sure what the min max marks are though I assumed the notches on the orange plastic bits?.
I have noticed the back of the car seems to get filthy very quickly, from the bottom of the bumper up to the top of the rear window, it's like dirty dusty dark water marks over it, also the tail pipes blacken quickly as well, could this be a sign of anything ie oil coming from tail pipes, I have muffler delete pipes by the way.
Ill go and check level again when it's cooled down but I'm fearing the worst, only had it a few weeks :( feeling so gutted and disheartened already :(
 
After doing a bit of reading up it could be a number of problems worst case being scored cylinder walls best case being a knackerd pcv valve, is there anyway of checking the pcv valve?.
 
this sounds a bit vague but does the engine bay smell hot/oily as they can leak quite badly from the rocker covers, could be scored walls or valve stem oil seals? Get the missus to stand behind it when you start/rev it does it smoke at all? fuel consumption sounds a bit high i always use shell v power in mine don't ever touch any supermarket stuff. maybe some different oil may improve things a bit? not too sure about the pcv valve
 
Bring it to the meet next week Ian and we can have a look at it, run vcds on it to see if there are any/ other problems.
 
Not at all jutlis there are no real signs of oil loss at all no smells no smoke, it's weird. I'm going to use v power and see how I get on.

I'm hoping to make it gen, have you got obdII readers then bud?.
 
I don't think I will be able to make it sun bud, Iv got a family meal at 1pm :( I think the recommended oil is a 5w 30 but using a 0w 30 will be just as well.
 
could be a little on the thin side as these do like to use a bit even when there are no real problem

I've just had mine a few weeks but so still on the first tank and only done about 250miles so far and even with me "giggling over the V8" all the time and doing demo runs for friends in it i'm still likely to get around 320+miles to the tank, oil hasn't moved either yet.
I'm actually surprised at the consumption it's better than I'd gambled on lol
 
What mileage is on the car? I would suggest the oil is a little on the thin side, especially if the mileage is starting to climb, I would also avoid tesco fuel, although its premium it's still a budget fuel, stick to shell if you can or bp ultimate 300miles to tank should be achievable but you won't see much more.

finally check you don't have an oil leak on your rockers, they are common to go brittle after about 30-40k and need replacing periodically from then.
 
Sorry haven't been on for a while due to ill health :( all fixed now though, shame the same cant be said for the poxy car!.
It has 72k miles Chris so not a great deal. I've since stopped using the tesco fuel and fill only with shell v power, hasn't really made any difference to be honset, I'm sure the previous owner was using normal unleaded and not super as iv found several receipts for it tucked in the back of the glove box!, don't know if this may have caused any problems?. Fuel and oil consumption haven't really changed over the last month or two, I'm now using Mobile one 5w30, I may be getting a few more miles from this if anything but not a lot.
I have also recently had a CEL, when checking the codes I'm getting 17535 and 17537 bank one and bank 2 running rich! Could these things be related? I'm fed up of this car now a really regret buying it, I think I'll resolve these issues and move the car on, thought I'd be safe with an Audi :(
