I never understood the whole 'gallon' thing. Easier filling the tank and counting actual miles.

Shoulda got a KO3 TFSI - or explain to REVO you do not need so much fuel perhaps? I keep them just 'slightly' lean but still protected 12.0 AFR I like, but everyone different

Bog standard 2.0 TDi Sport - town driving - 500ish to the tank - motorway (75-80ish), anything up to 600 easy. Did Newcastle to Chertsey and back on a single tank with a (little) bit to spare 2 weeks ago. Best was Newcastle to Western Super Mare and back on a single tank - around 640 miles

According to the fuel computer in the car over the last 16 hours of use I've averaged 61.9 mpg. At 75 - 80 on the motorway the fuel computer is normally high 60's. That said I've spent a lot on mods which improve the fuel economy but as a consequence have also significantly increase the torque and power!
I would love to fill the tank in your car, and in an identical 'stock' (no mods) vehicle and see how many actual miles each returns

Increasing power doesn't give better MPG
I've proven this several time! Especially in case of diesel where we increase fuelling (and definitely increase fuelling to create 197hp)

wouldnt make a **** of diffrent, you could have two identical cars roll off the production line and 5/8 years down the road, all manner of things wear diffrently from one car to the next. depending on mileage abuse service intervals and many many more out side variations
for example, my car uses shed loads of fuel, around 20 mpg and if i compared that to a car of the same spec (i only have 2.5" exhaust and decat) then the other would certainly be better on mpg
And this is starting to get gay...
