I must be having a midlife crisis, been looking at Porsches for a while, and fancy replacing the S3 with one! I've had the ess for over 10 years now, and since I hardly drive it, I fancy something a bit more special in my garage for those rare moments I go out for a blast! Even the misses approves of the idea, so it may just happen...

Not sure which one though, Boxsters are getting cheap now, and there's plenty about, Cayman's aren't all that expensive to buy, and the preferred choice for driving pleasure, or a proper 911, 993 or 996 model? Makes me happy just thinking about it!

Anyone else in the same boat?

You only live once, might as well make the most of life whilst you can! :racer:

Get one while you can Joe !
If work wasn't as far away i would have one myself !

It really depends on how much you have to spend. I'm on my fourth 911, great cars.

I want to Bernie, trust me! :)

Tell me more, which ones have you had, and was it an upgrade everytime you changed?

Upgrade each time, 3.2 Carrera - 964 c4 - 996 c2 - 996.2 GT3

I would never rule out a Boxster or Caymen, both very good, especially the Caymen S. But a 911 is a 911.
Do you want old school air cooled or more modern comforts ?

Funny, was talking about this at work yesterday. A mate said he was considering a Cayman S - I told him I'd never driven one as I know as soon as I do, I'll want to buy one.

I'll make do with my 'fake' for the moment (blatant excuse for some Speedster porn, eh)...

Jo is on about real cars, not battery ones like your Avatar....:undwech:.......:haha:

I thought about one but not practical for me,you have a runaround so you can do it Joe.
I'd get a Boxster first then upgrade if you love it.

I was about to buy a 993 Turbo last year when I retired from the RAF but at the last minute was put off buying one from the verdict given by a colleague who I would fully listen to on stuff like that. He said that I would last 10-15 miles in it, park it up and leave it in the garage never to be driven again. Shame really as its one of the all time class Porkers. Expensive but beautiful.

Lovely cars and my dream car too,i spent a lot of time at Statller and Steve and his Dad Steve have always had them, there is always loads around there including Steve Jnr's 997t and his GT3rs ,but he had a silver 993 turbo like in the picture above but in silver, his mate has it now but still looks amazing,We went to a Swiss wax detailing day at here :Gmund Cars - Porsche Specialist in Harrogate - Home
these also always have some lovely rare cars like speedsters and bull nose porsches, have a look at some of there sold cars too its semi chubb in pants material

test drive a 996 GT2 you will never think about anything else

Prices have seem to taken another steep rise in the last 12 months. A descent 993 turbo with good history will set you back a minimum of £50k......and they seem to be snapped up very quickly aswell. Maybe people are seeing it as an investment.

I always said I'd own a 911 by now, a lightly used 997 Turbo would be my choice but I haven't so far, sense has always prevailed! The spectre of much younger GTR for the same money is also another factor that has stopped me. The 2 year Porsche warranty does make me think it might be a good move these days.

Jojo.

I love you.

I would love you even more if you built this with your current project. I know you have wanted one for a long time, and I know you have seen the real deal.

BUILD: SPOON SPORTS SUPER TAIKYU EK9 - Speedhunters

A lot of that looks quite familiar, but each car is built differently by it's competitors to be in line with the regulations which the car is entered in.

Do it! I brought a 911 (964) when I was 28, and owned it 5 years. Used as a 2nd car, and it was truely superb. I only sold it due to financial commitments, but now I have all but finished sorting that out, I will start looking again!

Infact, I recently see my old car for sale on Pistonheads, and its gone up in value, the air cooled ones certainly are!

I've looked at them mate, £20k for a decent one, a bit too much for a weekend toy at this moment in time.

I need to do a bit more research on what I'm looking at before I buy to be honest, I don't want it to be a money pit exercise, but it tickles me at the thought of owning one. Pistonheads Classifieds is like a candy shop to me! Lol

For under 20k, I would go for a 996 Carrera 2 manual, preferable 3.6.
Or a 1980's air cooled car, which is a better investment.

I tempted myself to buy a 993c2 at the moment before the prices get any more silly.
