Hey guys and girls. Not been on here for a while! Now I'm stuck, so thought I'd turn to you knowledgeable chaps and chapettes :)

In Jan, my brother ordered a specced up A3 1.8 TFSI S-Tronic Quattro. We'd been to the same dealership we went to to get the S3, and used the same guy. Since I got the S3, that guy's changed positions within the company, but still took the order and said he'd pass it on to someone in Sales. On our paperwork, is says that we went in on the 11th of Jan, and an estimated delivery date would be 14th of April.

A couple of weeks ago I asked my bro if he'd heard anything from them coz he should have at least got a solid build date by this point. He said he hadn't heard anything. Last week I rang up the dealership and chased the original guy we spoke to and said that the guy he passed the paperwork on to should have got in touch with us by now with that info, and he'd get him to ring us back. The next day, still nothing, so I ring up again and finally speak to this other guy. He tells me that due to reasons with the spec of the car, the car won't be delivered now until SEPTEMBER! I asked him how on earth an A3 can take 9 months to build, and he said something about the B&O sound system that my brother specced, is now changing price and that put a delay in it. I asked when that price change took place, and he said that it changes on the 1st of April. So I asked how a price change can affect the car's build date by 5 months, even though the car was ordered 3 months before that price change. He had no answer for that.

Now as a family, we've bought 3 brand new Audi's and this would be the 4th. The other 3 were ordered around April time, and the delivery date would always be around September. So out of curiosity, I rang up another dealership pretending to want to buy a car, gave them the exact spec my brother ordered and asked when the delivery date would be. Surprise surprise, they said September. So I'm now thinking, the guy that this got passed on to didn't process the paperwork and only did it last week when we were chasing up a build date.

I then ring up the original guy we spoke to and told him my thoughts, and he said that he looked into it, and apparently Audi over allocated builds for that engine/transmission combination and a few people had to have their build dates bumped down the line. No mention of price changes for the sound system! I asked for the paperwork and order number they used to process the order so I can ring up Audi UK and give them the order number and ask them when they received the order. I still haven't got it.

So basically, I'm quite ****** off and you can imagine how ****** off my brother is! Does anyone have details of who is best to speak to in Audi UK and any contact details?

Sorry this is a bit long winded, but thanks for any help in advanced!

Try Lesley Wright on 01908 601722 she may be able to help but not sure how much clout she has.

I don't believe the excuse about B&O, price changes would have nothing to do with availability. You should have had confirmation that the car was ordered very soon after you placed it with the garage. Cars usually spend 2 to 4 weeks before being accepted by Audi, and at this point are given a commissioning number and order number. The garage are then supposed to 'tag' this order number with your details to ensure that particular car is only sold to you (to stop other garages pinching it).

I would guess that in this case that either the order was never placed by the garage, or that they forgot to tag it with your details and it has since been snapped up by another garage / dealer and they've had to place a new order for you. There have been some delays with the 1.8 engines, and with S-line xenon lights, but I wouldn't expect to be waiting more than 6 months for the car.

If you receive a comissioning / order number for the car then you can very easily find out when the order was placed by asking Audi UK, this will reveal whether the garage is stringing you along....

OK, update on the situation.

I've managed to get an order number from the dealership and I've rang up Lesley and she's confirmed that the order was put through on the 14th of Jan and that it's an estimated build date of week 35.

I asked why were we given April and now that's gone through to September, and she said she doesn't know and that info I'd have to get from the dealership it was order from. This makes no sense at all!

So it seems it genuinely is a 33 week wait, that is long even by Audi standards. Is it a Sportback or a 3 door he's ordered? There are a few options that have been causing delays recently:

1) S-line Suspension on a Sportback has been put on hold indefinitely
2) Xenon lights (standard on S-line)
3) Production issues with the 1.8 Manual - details here: http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/new-a3...manual-disappeared-off-audi-configurator.html

With regards the 1.8 issues, it would appear that only the manual is affected, but it's possible this could have been extended to the DSG too. I would start by going back to the dealer and asking for a history of any build week changes. Sometimes dealers change the specification on orders in an attempt to get an earlier build slot allocated, this has been known to backfire and cars actually slip later - so it's worth asking if the build week has ever changed.

Thanks for the info. It's the 3 door that he's after.

My thought process is, why if I ring another dealer today they give me the same delivery date as an order that went in 3 months ago? Surely it should be later than September?

Also, I've just got sent a scanned copy of the order from the dealer, and it's barely readable! It's all pixelated. What you can make out is that next to 'order number', it's blank. No order number at all on it. It's things like this that make me think that they have something to hide...

A few things to check on the order form (if it's the Vehicle Detail form):

Status Code (third field down on the left) should be: "10 - With production week"
Comm No. (top field in the center) should be populated with a 14 digit number
Theo. Week (third field in the center) should be populated with a planned production week in the form of YYYYMM
Order number (half way down the form in its own box) should be populated with an 8 digit code.
Acce. Date (Top field on the right) should be the date the garage placed the order.

All of these fields should be populated if you car has been given a confirmed build week, if they're not then it could be an old form.
