According to an item in this week's Autocar Audi is set to launch an A3 Saloon at the Shanghai show next month and BMW is preparing a saloon version of the 1-series. Audi design chief Wolfgang Egger said "The image of saloons has become too conservative. Saloons used to be small, fun, compact and dynamic. We've lost that in the last 15 years" He also so there is "an opportunity to make a very modern saloon with compact dimensions"

I've seen a few photos / drawings of the A3 Saloon, it looks good. I think I also remember reading it was aimed at the US market and wouldn't be on sale in the UK, that might have changed though.

With the merc cla being launched they will probably now launch the saloon A3 to compete.

Saloon was always on the cards, after the reaction the saloon design study got at last years motor shows.

You're right in saying that it was originally aimed at U.S and Chinese markets, but apparently it is due to come to the U.K as well.

Is the saloon looks like the concept bring it on. If not I'd go for the CLA AMG sport. Although not fond of the quality of interior on the merc.
