RobMorris Audi A4 2.5 V6 tdi avant

nice - ive grabbed one but paid just over £30.. let us know how you get on - i shall tackle mine next weekend i hope!

As im waiting for parts - i grabbed a few hours to start the deep clean!

Removed the rear bench/front seats/and some panels from the boot..

Have a before and after pic after I cleaned the drivers seat.. Its still damp but considering the brown water I poured away its now a lot cleaner! Fingers crossed it will dry nice?

And I had a go at the carpets also..

I found nearly £4 in change, a winch handle, various child related toys/pens/diary and a gold ring! (well.. gold plated costume jewellery..)

Fitted the interior back in today which was easy enough but
Q****Now thw airbag light s on? Assume its where I took the seats out - what do I need to do to rest it?
Then I done a service..
First up I changed the air filter
Old vs new

And then the cabin filter

The oil was blacker than black! It was also so thick..
I got told off by the missus for using up the kitch roll trying to absorb the dirty oil out of the oil filter housing.
I was supplied a rubber ring gasket for the lid but oil peshed down the side of the housing when the engine was running so took it off.

At this point I though about changing out the glow plugs but couldnt see where they were for grud!
I went to the local parts shop and bought 2 cans off GUNK. Drove down to morrisons and bought 2 x 2.5 mins jet wash time..
Used up 1 tin on the dry engine, waited 5 mins and sprayed it off.. then on with the 2nd can, 5 mins and spray again..
I was really happy with the result, unfortunately didnt take a before pic.

After this I continued to do bits. I sprayed up the door hinges etc. Fixed the rear ash tray..
Then I thought id check the spare.. Here it is.. or was? Ive had the tyre replaced today but i am missing the jack and wheel brace?

^ is the air con compressor - if clutch / pulley siezed then it's either new pulley c.£150 + labour + regas (if you have to take it out to unsieze) or new compressor £250+ or 2nd hand one - there's some on 'bay for about £50 but make sure you get the rightone - the 2.5 is a specific one. - part number 8E0260805C or R or AK (depends on engine type AKE,etc)

can be done with front end in place (not in service pos) with difficulty.

keep up the good work!
And

cheers mate - it gets cold enough on low so il guess il leave it be.. (might change my mind in the summer!)

I love this thread! Loving the updates too. I might take my seats out this summer for the carpets to be cleaned, looks like you can get a much better job done.

if you want to clean the carpets then you must take the seats out! Its really not a difficult job and very straight forward to do with needing any instruction. My only tip would be to pump the seat up to full height to gain easier access to the spline and torx screws + the seat belt removal from the seats..
First though seek out what is needed to reset the airbag light as mine is on now..

You can reset airbag lights with vcds. Did you turn the ignition/ car on with some airbag connectors not reconnected? I know that can cause a problem with the steering wheel.

I have vcds though, so that won't be a problem. Thanks for the tip regarding the seat height though.

Yeah I drove to to the shops with the passenger seat still in the garage drying!

might have to invest in the vcds?

That'll probably be it then :( See if there's anyone local with vcds? The genuine lead is around £250, so not cheap.

Not sure, i've only ever used the genuine one. People have reported success with a non-geniune lead, but best to wait until someone who has actually used one can confirm for you.

Does anyone know how to change the display? IE what MPG im getting etc, it currently reads how many miles left to empty..
I did a search and there should be a button on my window wiper stalk to switch through the displays but mine doesnt have a button?

If you don't have the button then you don't have full DIS.
You can retrofit it though.
I think theres a "how to" on here. Have a search.
Most people retofit cruise control at the same time.

You'll also need vcds to code the car for DIS and cruise. (not sure the ebay cable would be up to that, but give it a try when it arrives)

Ive had my delivery of 4d carbon fibre look vinyl! I paid £9.99 from ebay for 50x150cm..
It looks great and is really tough and durable.

As I had one door trim off anyway I went about getting it wrapped!

I took my time and from start to finish it took about half hour to complete this trim piece.
First I washed it down with soapy water then rinsed it off with clean water.
Dryed it with a towel and then really dried it off and warmed the piece up with the hair dryer for good adhesion..

Laid it on the vinyl and cut a piece with about an inch excess all around.

Starting from the thin end on the flat surface I went along the piece making sure there were no bubbles/creases etc, then cut little nooks along the trim and reheated as I went along and stuck the pieces down firm.

The ends were a little tricky but I just warmed up the material and took my time and stretched it round the corners so that there were no folds/overlaps etc.

I can only do 1 at a time as my finger tips are so sore from pulling the material hard around the corners whilst the heat from blow dryer was burning them at the same time!

Anyway have some pics

My trim next to the roll of material - I went for dark grey colour.

And just a couple of pics of the ends. The straight is just straight..

Postman brought me a couple of prezzies today..

Some Infinity Coaxials to replace the stocks.. Ive not started the install as yet.
IMG_2292.jpg

And had my one of these delivered today
VCDS lite VAG AUDI VW SEAT SKODA Diagnostics Interface | eBay
..VCDS Lite. Was a bit of a hoe bag to install on my lap top - but done it eventually..
Cleared the airbag light and a few other codes that come up.
2 problems it did find was my brakes and my drivers side electric mirror?

I then seeked out how to reset the service warning which i used this vid for guidance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvOVympP4HY

I called various breakers for replacement bumpers and switches. no luck with the bumpers but picked up some nearky new window switches..

I then went about de-badging the rear. Didnt grab a before pic but here is a pic after I used floss to safely cut the letters/number off. I then used tar remover to soften the foam/glue and just scraped off this with my finger nail.

IMG_2294.jpg

Then I got out some T-Cut and buffed the remaining muck off.. Well happy with the result and with absolutely no hint of paint fade etc..

IMG_2297.jpg

I was getting cold so had a play indoors.. Took my door handle off and apart and wrapped it..

Really like what you did with the climate control unit. Any chance of a pic with it lit up at night. I don't think I have the patience to do that but would like to redo my buttons, and having the red and blue around the edge looks nice.

I think I said it to someone before who did the sticker mod on the buttons. Surely it would have made sense to paint the buttons matt black with a small sticker over the momiddle then when dry remove the sticker and apply the new button graphic? Would give it the OEM look.

Went out for a good drive today but noticed my revs never dropped after warming, as if the electric choke never see that the engine had warmed?

Whats wrong?

Hmm what to do with this screw?
It 'was' a star screw that ive managed to round off..
I first tried drilling but after 15 mins i managed about 3mm
then i cut a slit to try screwdriver out but im still not having any luck trying to get out
any advice?
IMG_2251.jpg

Got this sucker out yesterday. I hammered in a T30 bit I think it was and got it out!
Have replaced the spline bolts with ordinary bolts to stop this from happening again..

Thanks Jim - I have removed the top panel and also the stereo. Im told there tabs in the top corners and to put a screw driver in to press them down? I cant get a screwdriver in on mine?
Im wondering in the top trim removal ive left half of it behind?
Il have to take a pic for someone to confirm..
