A small guide to doing basic cylinder head work ie porting/polish/gasflowed

Yes i did

@10in on .400 lift it made 155 cfm's on the inlet and 144 cfm on the exhaust

Didn't go to .500 if i did it would of flowed more and the standard cams do lift that much anyway

hi andrew what mods would i need to to have this done mate so it runs perfect

cheers

Looks good, do you know what the flow figures 'before' were or a % increase in flow?

Sorry i did look what it did before, Someone gave me flow figures of a well know cylinder head man

I did my work on the head and strapped it to the flowbench and beat his figures

s3gazz you may need a tweak of the map.

Sorry for all the questions, did you get a chance to fit and test the head? never got round to dyno testing my head to see where the most gains (and or losses!) were. I could only judge by feel and increased top end performance. Id guess you would see quite healthy increases if the oem head is quite restrictive and boost picking up quicker.

Well i fitted the head to my engine, ( spec in my sig ) its on a standard map and standard injectors i pushed it one day and i know i shouldn't, running 13 psi of boost it shows 273 bhp on the liquid, never done it again as i've going BT and needs mapping

soz again mate i dont make sence but what mods i need to got with the ported head

Cant believe i haven't seen this thread before, looks like top quality work and as much as i'm pretty sure i could do mine (no where near as good as this) i think its something i'll leave to people that really know what they're doing ;)

very interesting read. you obviously have a huge amount of knowledge and expertise. just want to say thanks for sharing it!

Not been on this thread for some time now and noticed StaceyS3 reply

StaceyS3 has one of my heads now.

I've done some more work on head recently and having received a damaged ex JNL head that i've now cut up i've leant a lot more about the 20v head. Stacey's head is one of my new spec heads that i'm sure he will tell you about.

Go write up although id probably pay an expert like the OP to do this for me !!

What are the differences now andrew? Do you have pics to illustrate it?
Ive not started on mine yet, the heads only been cleaned so far. Need to get a move on really

Its something that can't really be show with illustrations, lots of measuring tools needed and you would need to be stood next to me for me to show you the different parts of the port thats been modified.

Just redone my own head due to unfortunate cam breakage

I would love to do something like this one day... Not necessarily to the S3... This sort of thing fascinates me haha

Thank you everyone

I just hope it performs well when fitted as this is not the end and i do have more planned for her, this was just a set back to my plans.

Just done a big valve head for a 20vT

Will see what that does on the flowbench now, this will be put on are CNC mill for deck cooling modification

I need to re-read this again I think... I might look at doing my exhaust ports

<tuffty/>

Get your manifold made up first with large ports and go from there but well worth it

my manifold ports are the same size as the gasket so massive really, the hotside has also been ported

Got you mail

will be looking into doing a small port head for someone that's want to see if a ported small port head will make a better drivable car rather than a his standard AGU head

i can understand his thinking keeping air volosity high with a gtx3071 and a 10:1 compression . Very driveale if it all works out

Is that from the perspective of doing it on a 2WD car to see the driveability improvements as opposed to on a 4WD or purely on a small port head?

Mike

why use photobucket ????????
all pic lost
full topic usless

Quite possibly because when the original post was made the photobucket issue wasn't an issue...

There will be a lot of this on almost any forum that supports this type of image posting sadly and will be a fair few threads heading this way as photobucket accounts approach renewal (mine included)

There is no need to get quite so upset about it though :)

I hope there is a cost effective way to resolve the image issue, as this was a fantastic guide for porting. Has given me plenty of confidence in taking on my own head work. =]
