After having my car checked by 2 different indys ,I have been told that
there are codings that only Audi can replace .I have the steering angle sensor
fault after removing the battery ,So i went to Audi ,The service manager seemed ok
he had the tech look at my car for an hour ,I made it quite plain to him ,Before i
removed the battery there were zero errors ! So what do you think the service manager says?
theres a wiring fault ! It could take 3 hours it could take a minimum of 4 even a day
your looking at 700 plus ?

I know for a fact that the codes for the car need sorting and that is all it is .Why are they saying its going to cost
so much? These people are nothing more than gangsters in suits .

My car is for sale with no power steering due to Audi being dishonest liars .Both of the
indys have told me straight it needs coding ,If we had the codes we could do it ,But Audi
just want to stiff there loyal customers

has anyone got an email for Audi uk or contact number ?
Im not letting them get away with this .

Be warned ! Never ever remove your battery ,I have had so much stress for removing
my battery it is rediculous .there is zero battery backup to stop this happening to anyone .
We were looking to buy a MY 10-11 sportback .But after this we are going to BMW or even Ford

If there are any honest Audi techs on here i will pay you to recode this car .I will burn it before i give Coventry Audi
£700+

Robbing ba****ds the lot of them.
I went in to get a quote for an oil change only for my S3....£150!!
That works out at about £300/hour giving £50 for oil and 20 mins to change it.
Got you by the short & curlys tho :-/

try a different dealer. Just give Solihull or Birmingham audi a call and tell them what needs doing. Worth a shot imo :)

All things being normal, a battery disconnect will not cause problems with your power steering coding that only Audi can fix.
I've had my battery disconnected tons of times with no problems. In fact I've had my whole steering rack replaced by an indy who managed to do the necessary coding etc to get it working and fault free.

Have you had the car on VCDS and done a steering angle recalibration/adaptation??

I dont trust any of them ,No wonder there's so many people waffling about in armani apparently doing nothing !
I feel sorry for the people who just bend over for them robbing lying tw@ts !
Anyone got Audiuk complaints email or number please post it .

Yes Ads i have mate .By the indys
volks sandburns and the mod on here .
Your car has probably got the older rack
mines got the updated rack that has the latest
codings ,And believe me it did happen after the battery was removed.
07-08 there were rack problems ,Audi know fine well that if they admit it
there would be a recall ,Because it kills the power steering when the battery is removed
I cannot see all these Indys telling me porkies ! Especially as they have not charged me a penny
Audi did give me a free hour ....Carrot !

Its a strange one. My rack is pretty new though mate, somewhere between 12-18 months old.

Shame you can't get yourself down to London. Russell Automotive would definitely have you up and running, they use the same diagnostics as audi (VAS 5051b). Might be worth the trip.

Reminds me of when i went to VW to get a fault code checked, i had already scanned it and replaced the dodgy speed / abs sensor but the fault would not clear. I went to VW and they scanned it and told me the same fault and then said they could not see anything wrong and would need to strip the rear brakes at a cost of 4 hours labour and then the parts on top.

I used to love scanning my car with VCDS... I would go into the stealer... show them the code and explain the problem. Not once did they come back with how they needed to verify it... I always ended up talking to the head tech and never got messed around as often so its a good tool to have if you can get your hands on it.

Mate I'm planning on coming up to Birmingham next week and could have a look at your issue and just do the coding for you, sounds like a case of a steering angle sensor needs resetting

I should have added the scan first incase people did not understand .Sandburns in cov is a huge vw /Audi scrappy
Rodney and Dave are ace guys and know there stuff ! .i new these guys when they were in the old brickworks in napton years ago .Being a VAG head myself etc...well i was with the older cars ,now i am fast going off them ....
,They always sort my cars ,Wayne scanned the car ,He knows his stuff .he tested the abs pump and all the sensors 1 by 1 etc etc .you can see it has been coded following the ross tech wiki guides etc .Volks in coventry tried to adapt the car after Audi had had it for an hour,it will not adapt ,They are saying they have seen this before and it needs to go back to Audi ,it will not adapt .There were ZERO faults prior to removing the battery !So either i am the unluckiest bloke around or Audi are just being greedy ! I think we all know what it is .Its a simple update or am i wrong .It has been coded and readapted several times .the esp and sreering will not adapt .the abs light has gone off ...
if anyone has had this problem can you get in touch .i cannot afford to repair it .i am looking to borrow a banger to drive until i can fix this problem .What a nightmare driving is with no power steering on these tyres...

Looking by your codes you only need to do basic settings? Do you have the power steering light on?

I'm a tech for vw and there is an update for steering angle sensors!

No more off topic posts, please or they'll be removed.

the esp and steering wheel light would be on, but the power steering should not be effected with a software problem... not that ive had anyway

I had the ESP and yellow steering wheel light along with very heavy steering last week when I changed the steering control module

As I have VCDS I followed the steering angle recalibration and steering limit from the Ross Tech site and that cured it

Have you tried that? Presume you have VCDS as you have posted the log?

Mine wouldn't clear till I had done both calibrations (steering limit took 2 attempts)

Hi, why was the battery disconnected new battery or for other work ??

Hi all,

Im new to this site, I have a audi A3 1.9D TDI on an 04 plate, I have a problem with the power steering and a red light that bleeps on the dash, I have had a look round and have noticed this is a common problem but dont know how much it will cost to fix, I couldnt do anything myself, Does anyone know anything about this ?

Hi all,

Im new to this site, I have a audi A4 1.9D TDI on an 04 plate, I have a problem with the power steering and a red light that bleeps on the dash, I have had a look round and have noticed this is a common problem but dont know how much it will cost to fix, I couldnt do anything myself, Does anyone know anything about this ?

Hi and welcome to the site.

I think you need to post this thread in the appropriate A4 section of the forum. This is the A3 8P section and the problem you have may be different on the A4.

If a Moderator or admin reads this perhaps they could do it for you ?

The first thing to do is get the car scanned with vcds. That is an electronic diagnostic system which identifies faults. Rather than go to a dealer (unless you've just bought it, if so take it back) have a look in the vcds section of this site. There is a map showing forum members who have this equipment and who will help. Just enlarge the map to your area and click on a blue flag to find someone and then send them a PM.

Thanks Mike, had the car for a couple of years and already had a new gearbox and battery! Ill have a look and see if i can work it out :)

Just to update you all ,Audi UK wriggled out of doing anything because there was a tiny bit of blue insulation tape on a harness on the window wiper connector ,How s h it are they?Dreadful customer services in my opinion. They do not honour any kind of good will if anyone else touches your car ,So never admit anything to them ,Upto 100k they will give you good will,If still in service as mine is with them . Mines not due a service until 99k its on 92now .So make sure if you need them that you have no indy repairs or they will blank you .Very petty considering there profit margins ...

Anyway being a decent mechanic my self i would not give up on the car ,I must admit now that a few weeks before i removed the battery my ex said the abs light had flickered on and the esp ,Now i was not aware of this ! she hated telling me incase i blamed her for damaging something ,Silly woman !Anyway i already set my mind on repairing the car .This car is in great nick so im not giving it away due to this silly problem etc .so i scanned it once again ,no errors? So set about stripping each wheel off and examining the abs wheel sensors ,Thank god the near side rear was goosed ,A new hub bearing and sensor from ebay ,Less than a £100 later and dead easy to fit its sorted. I got the mates vcds readapted it drove it a mile and all sorted ,If your car has a single fault in the abs the steering angle sensor will not adapt !Leaving the steering heavy ...
Do not trust Audi Coventry ,They scanned it & cleared the faults and would have known exactly what it was yet never told me ! Yet quoted me the how long is a piece of string shizzle when i asked how much to fix it ! Use NHN on here before you go near the STEALERS .
They wanted at least £700 out of me ,So be aware people .These people sell expensive cars and sell you any line they think they can get away with ...
if anyone needs any help on how to do any of the repairs feel free to message me. What seemed like a nightmare was sorted out so simply.
My cars back to factory standard and its as good as the day i bought it ,There good cars ,But jeez can those sensors cause your wallets some grief ;)
