Morning all,

I've owned this car for 6 months now and noticed on a good run last Sunday a fairly faint hum between 38-50mph. The car has done 32,000 miles, it's a 2009 V6 3.0 quattro avant, DSG tiptronic.

The hum is not gear specific, or engine rev related, and it's not the supercharger. I think the noise is from the centre of the car and it hums on the way up and the way down. It is quite subtle. There is no vibration.

I suspect the cold weather may have brought it on. I am sadly 16 weeks out of warranty.

The bit of reading I've done mentions wheel bearings, or heaven forbid, the prop shaft. But all threads relate to previous models.

Anybody experienced similar on their quattro?

All help much appreciated.

Was it bought from an Audi dealer?

If so, you get 1 years warranty from your purchase date.

No, sadly not, bought from a friend and therefore know its full history, and of course full Audi service history.

Thanks for the response all the same.

Ah - thats the thing with buying private, and even moreso from a friend, you can't really go back and say theres a fault where you could if you bought through a company.

You could book it into Audi for a free health check and see if anything comes up.

That's not a bad idea, I have quite a good relationship with Bradford Audi, having bought parts from them for the past decade. I'll wait a day to see if any more replies come in then give Thomas a call.
