Hi all I have a 2003 A4 estate 2L TDi 130 sport, and whilst driving I get electrical power loss, sometimes the power goes and the clocks don't reset and then other times the clocks completely reset but the car always comes back on straight away, I'm getting worried because ita cut out a few times in dodgy situations such as around corners with no power steering or when u pull out in front of someone

When it cuts out the car beeps 3 times and the handbrake symbol appears and then the car re starts

Are you saying that the engine cuts and you have restart?I think you have a bad cnnection somewhere and it may need diagnostics if you cant trace it .Are the battery connections tight?

I've checked the battery terminal and they are fine, just wondering what would the brake fluid have to do with it ?

Brake warning on the dash could be low fluid. Have your battery checked.. It could be a sign of a dying battery

I've never had a problem with the battery, it starts first time no problem even in the coldest weather

I'm having a similar problem here DIS dead on my b5. I'm now suspecting an alternator diode pack, but am not really getting anywhere fast! I don't have exact same symptoms, but it has been a headache hunting down each theory - especially as the fault keeps changing a little! I would look at your earths first, and also check for fault codes. The codes may indicate where the power loss is coming from by what modules are effected.Electronics really don't like low voltage, whereas no volts just switch them off. (Hence the comments about bad battery)

i have this problem with my a4 cab does your battery light flicker randomly round corners? or when you give it some beans? mines cut out a few times excactly same as you have described. have you sorted the problem if i find out what is wrong i will PM you mate

yer mine flickers a bit then if you push the car harder it just turns off like the ignition has just been turned off then a mil of a second after cars on and running again does yours do this?

Well yes but not when I push it and I don't get battery light, it just randomly cuts out the comes back on, does your clocks reset ?

ive not really checked that one you mean like average MPG? and miles done and hours run etc? mines under warranty so if they find problem il let you know its going in friday

RED_stafford cars been in the garage and it was the alternator over charging the battery and electrics making the ECU turn off to save it from blowing up. so its alternator mate

So did u have to have the alternator replaced, that sounds expensive

With alternator over charging, you usually get your airbag light glowing.

My airing light is always on but i was told about a year ago that's because there was a sensor out. The airing light came on a long time before the electrical problem

the plot thickens lol....... try fleabay search for cars breaking if you dont want new

alternators are about 90 quid on flea bay mate but prob could get a recon swap for you old one, it looks easy enough to do, just thought with it been under warranty let them pay n do it
