Been offered a 380bhp Audi A3 thats got a 1.9 GT3071 on it

My question is i plan to use it as a every day car if i get it and the S3 will be used as a weekend car and want to know what are they like for putting power down though the front wheels

Is there much wheels spin

Do you get a lot of wheel hop when you do spin

I would of those you'd have the s3 as a daily and the big turbo as your weekend toy? It will be driveable as the turbo spool is higher in the rev range. You probably will spin a lot anyway. If there is wheel hop a new dog bone bush can help

I think you have missed my point

My Audi S3 will be making over 500bhp+ when fully mapped so i need something less thirsty than the S3 and this looks like it could be good and still around 380bhp

I'd say it's all in the mapping Andrew.

My A3 now on a ko4 hybrid at 300bhp is less of a handful to drive than it was at 225bhp with a ko3S, due to how it's mapped.

The ko3S came in all in one MASSIVE spike, producing 280ish lbft at 3500rpm, and constantly lighting the wheels up before falling flat on it's ****. It felt very lairy to drive, wheel spin was a big issue, as was torque steer.

The ko4 hybrid has been mapped progressively to come in very gently, not reaching it's potential until 4k or so, and even then torque keeps building all the way up to 5800rpm where it peaks, before holding nicely to the redline

The ko4 hybrid doesn't have nearly the same problems with wheel spin as the ko3S did, it's MUCH easier to drive.

I'd say if it's well mapped, and it has a diff, it'd be great fun.

When mine does spin up, at the top of second gear on my old hard road tyres, I get no wheel hop what so ever due to decent engine mounts, which I assume a 1.9 GT30 equiped car will already have!

Sounds like a similar map to Mine prawn.

Protect the rods!

The clipped turbine is mostly why the boost is slower to come in
same as in lupos... no surge, and slightly slower, but nicer for 2wd power delivery

It's easier to drive off boost on a big turbo . Mine makes better MPG than ever before on the GTRS

I await the k03s is better than everything bun fight.

Had 4 fwd 1.8ts, none mapped to over 220bhp, and tyres is the key point. I have cheapo tyres that are fine for stoping and going round corners at a moderate pace whilst keeping traction(in the dry) but are shocking if the conditions are above moist. I would say an exsperianced foot and some good tyres will keep those 380bhp under control. Also would the A3 not be a close match to your 500bhp s3? Obviousley traction is better on the s3. But i think itd be a good race :D

Progressive boost is where it's at. Do it if it's cheap enough Andrew, you can always run on Actuator pressure, it will still be over 150 bhp

And the rest! I know it's AMD, but mine made 281bhp on actuator pressure at AMD! 260ish on actuator at Rtech I seem to recall.

On actuator it feels like a big V6 or similar, and the torque curve is basically drawn with a ruler.

Low boost high driveability is brilliant.

Why don't I get offered cool shizz like that? :(

You want to drive my S3 lol loads of low down torque and when the GTX comes out to play its go goes like hell even at only 10 psi, can't wait to get it running 30 psi

I'm aiming for big power like yourself Andrew
just wondering how mine will be when I'm running say 450 bhp with the standard haldex controller ?

You should be fine as Tuffty and Welly are on the standard kit even though i do tell them to get the Blue Haldex

It was one of the first things i did to the car ( 2 days after ownership ) when i got it so i'm not sure what a standard Haldex is like

I'm running the standard haldex and have no problem.

im running standard haldex too, all seems to be ok however its on my list.

Andrew im running same set up as the a3 you are talking about, i have decent tyres and in 2wd its pointless.

so can you make a comparison?

well sort of as its a long time ago

It does improve thing things a bit but at the time my engine was under powered and had major issues so never could get a good feel for the change

So none the wiser then.

I've heard that there is very little difference and don't know anyone who'd recommend it.

Unless someone can demonstrate the difference/benefits, it seems like £700 up the spout.

It could end up like the k03s if you want dude, Yesterday Paul Murphys hybrid was seeing peak of 25psi 340lbft on the dyno during testing, back down to 316bhp- 22psi 308lbft with the power mapped to come in early and strong unlike your setup. Pauls is night and day vs your power delivery maybe a tad too much "in ya face" for your driving style. But we can test this once your rods have been fitted.

To be honest dude, I have no need at all for the blue controller, and IMO is very overpriced for what it is and does. I grant you they have their place, but I can think of better places to spend that money where it will make a difference I will appreciate more.

I have never had any issues with power delivery from the OEM controller, I think considering it's seeing double the power it was originally designed to, it does a great job.

The upshot is that it's just the controller at the end of the day. It is going to be no more or less reliable than any other controller. It's not the bit doing the hard work! lol
