Hi all I have owned my S3 for 6 years now and the wife has decided we need a caravan. I always said I would rather chop my right arm off than own a caravan.....however now I have to choose I have decided to keep the arm and buy a caravan. The question is who here has towed anything behind their S3 and how did you get on. The manual states that you can tow a braked trailer up to 1600kg with a nose weight of no more than 75kg and the total for the car and caravan must not exceed 3580kg. I also have read all about the 85% suggested rule which I intend to try to follow however the caravan I have seen will make it nearer 90% which I know is legal if not ideal. I would like to hear from anyone who has used there S3 to tow before I go ahead and get a tow bar fitted.......suggestions for good tow bar fitters also appriciated I live in Berkshire but can travel. Thanks for any information you can give

Andy

I cant see there being any issues. I've seen rovers towing caravans.

I'm sure the s3 would cope. Probably quite well too.

Obviously mpg would be affected though.

Haldex oil and filter change? car is well maintained and has recently had a new clutch fitted

I seem to recall that Audi didn't actually sell an approved towbar! However you can definitely get them aftermarket. I did a bit of research many years when I was wondering whether to trailer my track car, but decided to keep it road legal so I've now got a supermarket/tip car that also goes on the track and an S3 without a towbar.

If you want a detachable tow bar give me a shout as i'm taking mine off my S3 this week as i'm selling the car, Its a Bosil unit

As for the car towing, Mine have pulled twin axled car trailers and caravans with no major problems.

Hi Jacko does the bumper need to be cut with this tow bar? and how much do you want for it and what electrics does it have. thanks

Andy

No bumber cut is needed, I have all the wiring and relay box, Would take £125 , It cost me almost £300
