hi everyone hope someone can help me,

Ive been having problems with my a3 for about a month now, its loosing power when i put my foot down at fast speed and seems like its not able to handle the power for example yesturday on the motorway as i came out of road works from a 50mph i put my foot down to 80mph and then lost power, but if i take it slower going up to 80-90mph than usually there is no problem... my engine light was on about a week ago and took it to the place i bought it from and they said theres something wrong with the turbo its opening or something i didnt really know what he was talking about as im not an expert on these things and also he said it might have been chipped which made me think why they wouldnt tell me this before and sell me a car like this, so anyway they turned the engine light off and he said when it comes back on again bring it back and they are going to send it somewhere else to get it fixed, but then by that time my 3 month warranty will be over so i dont know whether i should trust his word as he might just say they cant do anything because warranty has ran out...

also after that drive lastnight when i parked up the turbo was making a constant noise even without me driving, so would this mean it needs changing? and i get a slight shaking while parked...

sorry its really long, any help really appreciated. thanks

Computer should have shown the reason for EML light. the fact that they garage did not tell you the issue could
mean they don't want to fork out for repairs. I.E maybe new turbo needed? sounds fishy to me.

aye deffo m8 as above get it down there m8 or pay someone or find someone here for a scan m8 them turbo`s aint cheap m8 £1000 - £1500 looks like there trying to stiff you with that bill if its a tdi there known to go looks like there deffo trying to dodge a bullet m8

I had something like this but mine was overboosting and the vains were sticking open which makes it go into limp mode. It may be the same for you ? if it is get it down there and get it replaced because mine needed replaceing at £450 for the turbo which was a recon then £125 to fit :( what engine have u got?

Assuming the boost pipe has not come adrift then it's definitely turbo. You need to get it scanned asap.

Is the turbo sound whistling like a police siren noise or is it a hiss ?

Bet it's a BKD (2.0l tdi 140) !

sorry about the late reply
yes its 2L tdi 140 and it sounds like a siren
but it hasnt been doing it for the last two days so only really happens when i go on long distance drive.. at first they said the turbo is not under their 3month warranty and after going there the last time they said they would get someone to fix it when the light comes back on so i was abit confused, but never know when the light will come back but my engine still looses power so i dont know what to do..

would the turbo blow up or anything, i mean like how would i know when it need changing? thanks

The turbo whine is due to the variable geometry vanes inside the turbo sticking. When they stick in a certain position it will cause too much boost in the engine and the management system will shut the engine down for protection.

It is possible to have the turbo removed and the vanes cleaned and freed but this tends to be only a temporary measure.

In any event it needs sorting because there is a possibility that a vane could break causing more serious damage to the engine.

If you get the car scanned it will show overboost and the garage should accept at least some resposibility. The fact that it keeps going into 'limp' mode demonstrates the fact that something is wrong and needs sorting.

Don't wait for it to fail completely.

Aye i wouldnt be havin tht selling you a car with a fault and not a small 1 i be straight down there getting ma money back dont leave it to long or you be stuck with it plenty of cars out there the cheeky sods i hate garages always trying some dirty trick
