Anybody know if they are the same for a FWD 1.8T and a 1.8T quattro? Mine is burst and need a new one. Also can it come out from the top with the cat still bolted to it?

Quattro one is much shorter than a FWD one.

I'm not sure if you can simply cut the FWD one down to length though.

i couldnt get mine out the top, or out the bottom, i had to cut the old downpipe in half with a grinder. Might be different with a ramp though.

Ah, i was trying to take the cat and downpipe out together, as the bolts that join them were totalled. putting it back together i installed the cat first then the downpipe.

Yeah. I remember from when i had the engine out those bolts were sell rusted. Thats why i was hoping it would come out together from above. Did you have to go to audi for the new one?

If you remove the full air box you can just about pull the full thing from under the bonnet it's a tight squeeze but just clears past and bends the little heat shield on the drivers chassis leg. If your attempting to do it buy splitting it iirc remove the o/s driveshaft heat shield do a bit more room but it's still a tight space.

I got mine from Euro Car parts. It was a bit crappy, but it did the job.

Thinking about it, it was a FWD one i changed, so maybe the extra length caused my problems. The tail of it hit the floor before i could get the angle right to draw it out.

It's £85+ vat for a new one from Audi so might just go with that. Should last another 200k miles then.
