I have a 2002 reg Audi S3, about a month ago i started to loose boost, was told the timing was out and my CAT was blocked, had the timing done and just changed the CAT, still have lack of boost. Seems to be burning water also as i have white exhaust smoke and also water in coolant tank. Had a engine replacement 5000 miles ago so was doubting it would be the head gasket, also its not overheating. Would this explain the boost/lack of power issues. Any help much appreciated :)

First thing you need to do is scan for fault codes using VCDS or similar... these cars log all sorts of stuff and is the best starting point without actually seeing the car itself..

Lack of boost could be due to various reasons buthe the best approach is a scan then go from there...

Welcome to ASN... :)

Where abouts are you?
Alot of members have VAG COM on their laptops... maybe somebody local to you on here can help you out?

Ok thanks very much, i will try that, someone who i knows has VAG COM so i will get it hooked up asap. Im in the blackpool area. So even without an engine management light on, there will still be fault codes?

Thanks for the help guys

Boost leaks , Various other problems can all be there without a dash light,
As said, scan the car and write down any codes that come up. Clear them and see whats what,

Yeah... faults don't always bring up the CEL...

The other thing you could look out for is boost and vacuum leaks... basically any hose thats part of the intake/boost systems is subject to leaking or having pipes split etc...

Most common being pipes under the inlet manifold that are part of the PCV system etc..

This is the same for any VAG with a 1.8t engine... common across the range, A3, S3, TT, Leon, Ibiza, Skodas... etc..

With the pipes under the inlet...
I was told to look out for it being oily under there. Usualy i sign one of the pipes has split,
