Im looking to get ipod connection through the OEM stereo in my 2007 S3 and I am swaying towards this: ALPINE KCE-425I [KCE-425I] - £179.99 : BassJunkies

Is this all I need and how easy is it to fit? The reason I ask is someone previously mentioned a VIM hack, don't even know what that is.

Any feedback is appreciated especially from those who have the same unit.

why not buy the genuine Audi lead as its only £102, which makes it cheaper and you can control the ipod from the stereo or steering wheel ?

I didn't even know this was an option. Is that what you used?

if u do go down the Alpine road - youll also need a Kufatec interface adapter aswell as the KCE425i (not a clue what the exact name is lol) - and the hack as u pointed out to allow the TV mode to be shown whilst you drive

After researching this over the past week or so this is the first I have heard of the Audi lead. Is it £102 from the dealer and is it easy to fit?

What really is important to me is that I have full control of the ipod through the stereo and also have playlists and track names showing.

Im collecting the car on Tuesday so don't have it yet but it's an 07 so the old one I presume?

VIM hack is the Video-In-Motion hack. Simply put it allows you to watch videos on your RNS-E Navigation while driving. If you dont have this hack you'll be greeted by a message like "Vehicle must be stationary" when trying to watch videos and drive at the same time.

Are you wanting video support from the iPod? If so then you must have an RNS-E and assuming from the previous post, you dont know if that sat nav is fitted. And also like a previous poster said, that Alpine lit requires a Multimedia Unit to make the unit compatable with the RNS-E, this unit costs around £100 on the bay.

If you dont want video and just want the iPod music feed then Id go for a Xcarlink iPod kit. Around £85 and work on the stereo displaying tracks etc and allow control of steering wheel etc.

Thanks mate I think the Xcarlink iPod kit is the way forward for me as im not fussed for video at all. Where is the best place to get this and is it hard to fit?

Is this the right one? Audi iPod Interface for Audi RNS-E Navigation System :: AUDI :: XCarLink

tbh the dension 100 i think is better than the xcarlink. personal opinion :)

Do either of them have the track names and playlists on the RNSE screen?

this is the genuine Audi Iphone / ipod but cheaper fromdealer it takes 15 mins to fit plugs into the backof the stereo i have the symphony with Bose.

displays track No on display.

Only way you'll get iPod track info is by having a MK2 RNSe and the Audi AMI interface.

You can go down the Alpine road but as mentioned you will need an AV input and TV in motion.

Im confused now. So many options and not sure what to do.

Im confused now. So many options and not sure what to do.

I have the Alpine one fitted in my car (old RNSe) Displays the tracks perfectly onscreen, can play video - its bascially just like the ipod interface, the only thing thats annoying is Fast Forwarding tracks, kinda cant do this lol - to me personally this doesnt effect the usability for me.

Get the Alpine if u desperatly want the track names on screen (Only if u have the MK1 Rnse). If you have the MK2 then get the AMI and go down the proper Audi road :)

If u want a cheap option but no track names... (will be shown as Track 1, Track 2 etc etc...) then get the Dension Gateway 100.

Hope this helps pal

And as Cruiser89 said above, with the Alpine KCE-425i you will also need the Kufatec adapter and TV in motion hack adding to your RNSe to allow full functionality.

Cheers guys. I might just go for the Dension but by tomorrow i'll probably change my mind again. I did have my mind made up on the Alpine KCE-425i but not sure how easy it is to do with the adapter and tv hack....

The Dension 100 is a piece of cake to fit. The alpine is also easy, if one knows how to do it correctly :p - not 100% sure but i think Nigel (NHN) on here might be able to sort you out, forgive me if im wrong!!

But will give you track info on the DIS, and it scrolls.

MattAndrew has the Alpine hooked up to his mk2 RNSE, works perfectly.

OP, simple iPhone lead either OEM or Xcarlink or Connect2 doesn't show any track names.

Dension shows track names on the DIS only

Alpine shows track names on head unit.

My opinion is unless you want to splash out on a mk2 RNSE and AMI kit, then Alpine is a very good option, Matt gave me demo of his and I was impressed with how well it integrates.

XcarLink does show track names in DIS. I have one in my car and it displays track names all day long in the DIS

EDIT: Humble apologies. Just been out to the car to check and I must have got my wires crossed. The SD cards display track name in DIS, but the xcarlink just displays 'Track 1', 'Track 2' etc.

Strange, I have one and mine doesn't!

Possibly a different a model, didn't know they made one like the Dension, I stand corrected.

All depends whats worth the extra. Xcarlinks can be had for £85 and Dension 100 for around £130 I think. Densions are certainly the more rated and most approved kit but ever since Dension released the Dension Five, Ive always struggled to sing their praises...

If it makes it easier...

We fit an UN-holy amount of Dension products for all the VAG main dealers we work for, unless they want the AMI system.

Only fitted one of the Alpine's at customer request through the dealer.

If we haven't fitted an RNSe we then usually supply Kenwood and Pioneer double din units. Ash (itwasntme) has a Pioneer that is very good that we have done a few of.

My personal opinion - if you have the cash, splash out on the AMI. If not, Dension 100 every day of the week!

I think im swayong towards the Alpine option, does anyone on here know anywhere in Scotland that I can trust to do the whole thing including the hack and adaptor?

Hi guys, got RNS-E MK2 and now thinking of playing videos on screen. What would be the cheapest and the best option to connect ipod video 80gb - 5th generation.
