My wife A3 1.8 quattro sport won't start.
she drove home yesterday all was fine and when we went to go out today it just turns over but doesn't start.
has anyone else had this?

I've now managed to run a scan and it came up with "engine control module incorrecly coded"
I cleared it and now the car starts with no code coming back BUT why did this happen and it's worrying that it could happen again at any time.

Check code against Ross tech wiki. Obviously an immobiliser fault, just a guess but could be the battery on its way out

The immobiliiser is built inside the dial cluster so I would say check the wiring connections on the back

the car turned over fine for a while and the battery didn't seem to dip in power.
It could be a the wires but odd that it would just do that.
The car isn't modded and has been fine.

Not coded correctly means a possible ROM error as the cold weather has somehow made it forget what car it's coded to.

If it ws immo, you would have had a flashing key and it would have ran then cut out.

maybe it's just a glitch, see if it comes back. Is it mapped at all?

yep cold can cause alsorts with the audi
i have problems every year in diffrent audis

These are the sort of story's that make me want to carry my vagcom cable everywhere i go....lol

The car completely standard.
I've now taught the wife how to use vag com and she now has to carry the laptop with her all the time.

ok it happened again this morning. car started and got to the shops then wouldn't re starts.so she cleared the fault code and it still won't start but turns over fine and it was the same code. could it be the battery? it does turn over strongly so maybe not. I am baffled by this and we need to get it sorted ASAP.

Well if he's turning strong I doubt the problem is the battery. Is it possible that it could be a dodgy earth or connection, seems unlikely/daft that the ecu and dash could have forgotten its coding. At this point I'd be taking it to an auto electrician
