Hi folks,

Driven upto the folks this weekend, just drove upto a mates there, no bother, everything completely fine.

Come out the house and fire up the car, its turning over but refusing to start.

Car has been completely fine, no sign anything was wrongetc etc.

Has had 4 new coil packs and no warning lights on the dash.

Any ideas guys?? Surprised it was fine one min / not starting the next :(

Thanks in advance

Chris

Well you would know if the battery died, well if fuel pump works deliver to injestors, plungs new starter motor spins the engine, it should start, have u cheked the timing belt or any fuse blown?

you need to check to make sure your getting fuel and a spark first.

Don't want to be the angel of doom but had exactly the same thing happen to me 3 weeks ago, unfortunately it was the starter motor in my case.Car worked fine in the morning, started it in the afternoon and nothing, no warning. Check your earth points under the battery first but I'll put a pint on it being that, easy 45min job though and the motor came in around %100.......

Starter motor is turning nice and strong.

Timing belt was done by a VAG specialist in July just passed.

Usually I hear a ticking by my right foot I think it is?? In the cabin anyway, Not hearing that, and I can't hear the fuel pump priming.

Is there a relay for the fuel pump? Or are the fuel pump's bad for going?

I'm not that mechanically minded but think i'll see what I can tomorrow morning.

Failing that, recovery and 140mile back to Edinburgh, argh :(

Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it, was just singing it's praise about how reliable it was lol.

Just checked all the fuses on the drivers side door panel and the fuses on top of the battery, all OK.

Where is the fuel pump relay? I'm sure when i usually turn the ignition on i hear a click, pump primes then i fire it up, not hearing the click or the pump prime now.

Is this a cheap bit to replace? Think i'll just get it recovered to the garage tomorrow, let them sort it.

Was just about to give my VAG made mate with a VR6 golf a shot and was telling him how reliable it had been lol

I'm pretty sure the fuel pump relay is in the drivers foot well, although I couldn't tell you which one it is. An easier option may be to expose the fuel pump through the hatch under the rear seats, and test your getting voltage there. The pump should prime on 2nd stage ignition. I have read about fuel pumps failing.

If you got breakdown cover I'd get them out to be honest, it's what you pay for.

It's breakdown through my insurance, imagine all they will do is just recover me, experience of them in the past is pretty useless, only just got rid of the AA too :S

Sh*t luck tonight, my little brother just reversed into my car 10 minutes ago, raging doesn't even come close.

Front bumper will need sprayed, golf ball indentation from his towbar :'(

hey Chris...

what's the verdict? what's happened since?
