Hi,

I know there is an Air Con sub forum but all the threads I have found in there someone says check the 8L forum and so and so..

Basically im pretty sure my Ac system works but the air coming from the vents is not cold at all.

I have checked the fuse on top of the battery and cleaned the contacts, and checked the fuse inside the car. When turning the Ac on the two fans at the front spin as they should. I can't hear the compressor clutch kicking in when switching between auto/econ, and I know there is gas in the system but not how much.

I have checked the voltage at the compressor and I have 5v with igition on and between 6.8-8v on idle.

This seems a little low to me, is the relay at fault? Or could it be the pressure switch near the condensor? I am yet to jumper the contacts to test the switch.

I know you will say get someone out to test the system and re-gas which I will do but I just want to pin point the problem and see if I can get it working myself.

So is 7v at the compressor too low? And what is the cause for this?

First thing... is the outside temp 5deg or less as the AC won't work in these temps...

Secondly, I would get the gas checked or at least scan the AC module with VCDS to see if there are fault codes... IIRC there is a pressure switch in the system that should throw a fault code if the pressure is too low (low gas)

Hi tuffty,

Thanks for the reply, the temperature is well above 5deg (about 14deg atm). I have scanned the climate module but it keeps coming back with a communication error, is the ac module seperate to this or is it part of the climate module?

I will have another go with vcds tomorrow.

Cheers

Humm... no communication doesn't sound good... aircon is module 08 HVAC in VCDS... no comms could mean a ******** controller as it tells the aircon pump when to switch on/off etc...

I am fairly sure the controller/module is all part of the climate control unit in the centre console

Ok I have a spare climate controller I tried today and the AC was still not cold, turns out the communication error was just down to the wrong setting in the usb port (the latancy timer is set to 16 you have to change it to 1 and then it works fine).

So I managed to communicate with the 08 hvac module and there are no faults logged. I browsed measuring blocks and the climate panel seems to be working as it recognises a signal for the compressor to be switched on when on auto.
