I have an a3 tdi just had mot and has an advisory for corroded rear springs and weak shocks. I carry a lot of wait in the car as i use it to do cash and carry should i replace with stocks parts or uprated. what options have i got anyone got any ideas

I would use this opportunity to lower the car, as lowered springs have a higher spring rate than standard. Either go for a set of fresh OEM shocks or uprate them for Bilsteins or similar, depends on how much you want to spend.

Here's a pic of my Passat Wagon fully loaded with stock, I go to buy 200kg's+ of stock twice a week in it, it's running lowering springs and KYB(OEM spec) shocks.

I had the same problem and went for cheap coilovers. Car handles better, was the cheapest option and it's lower too. Obviously not as good as Billies or KWs but much cheaper.

im on a tight budget i have been quoted 200 quid for new stock shocks and springs fitted i would like it to sit a bit lower not to low that would mean that the sump is in danger of being smashed every time i go over speed humps what about theses eiback pro kit springs Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs Audi A3 1.9 TDI 96-03 | eBay
could i install them with stock shocks or should i get some coilovers

I've never caught anything in Brum with my lowered Passat, nothing that was near my sump anyways!

My understanding is that JOM / Jamex / FK cheap coilovers are pretty much the same. The coilovers are adjustable whereas the springs aren't. I'd go with coilovers instead of springs and shocks. The ride can be quite firm but I don't mind it.

i don't want the ride to be to harsh because i do around 70 miles a day it works out cheaper to get the jom coilovers than to get the eiback springs and oem shocks

jo jo what lowering springs are u running ?

I had PI(Personal Identity ones)and standard shocks for 10 years and 100k miles, the fronts snapped due to corrosion, now running Autotechnics springs and KYB shocks on my Passat. On my S3, I'm running Eibach springs and Bilstein Shocks.
