Hello chaps.

I just bought some cheap genuine Mk4 R32 (Oz) alloys on a whim. They've had a going over with a few rattle cans of anthracite but are overdue a good refurb.

Now, the S3 is currently for sale but I bought these thinking I can stick them on while I refurb the RSTTs and make it look more presentable... then refurb the R32s and sell them on.

What do you think, obviously hard to tell from leaning them up against the car!?

Looks nice as it goes, really suits the colour of the s3.

I realy think they work well,
I like them. how heavy are they??

I likely lol. They made by oz did you say?

Yeah made in Italy by Oz, not made in the magical land of Oz.
I believe another big manufacturer also made R32 alloys to the same design, can't remember who.

Quite heavy. Someone on another forum said 12.5kg each without tyres, is that bad? Feel pretty hefty to me!

Cheers folks, I always thought they'd look good on the 8L but couldn't find pictures. When these came up fairly cheap and so soon after payday it was a no brainer. The tyres are barely legal but i've got some Falken 452s on some old A8 reps in the shed, so i'll swap them over. Would be great if I could afford some snow tyres for them!

I've had satin black OZ SuperT's on my S3 for the past 3 years - I really like multi-spoke wheels but they are a ****** to keep clean.

12kg a corner is quite heavy, especially when you consider you have the weight of the tyre togo on that.

Still look nice though :).

Anthracite wheels are generally pretty awesome. I want my CH's painted Anthracite but must resist spending cash on the car...

Cheers for the opinions chaps. I wasn't expecting such a positive reaction tbh!

I think they'll look great on the car. Not sure if i'll refurb them first or just slap them on as they are - there's a fair amount of oxidation under the paint.

While i'm here - can anyone tell me what's the nearest colour to the standard RSTT colour that I can pick up from halfords/B&Q..? just a random silver?
Cheers.

They look really good mate (might need to pull your arches a bit though...lol ;))

Colour suits the car as well....not too dark or stealth.

Having just washed the car, I've taken a couple of piccies - apologies for the post hijack but it shows another set of dark OZ multispokes.

As said most muti spokes look good on the 8l. I thought about the r32's also a while back but didn't find any images to see how it would look. I reckon in anth they'll look mint on dude. Don't see that many around running them, get some pics up

Gota Love a noggy on black rims

And another.......

And your taxi looks cool too dave :whistle2:

There are times I wish my car was a Noggy Blue. This is one of those times!

Where did you get those front mudflaps from jcs? Cheers!

I'm looking forward to getting them on the car but I think they're worth a decent DIY refurb first.
Anyone else with similar wheels feel free to post a pic!

Thanks.

They are 8L A3 rear ones with a custom made bracket at the top to hold them to the wing. From the last time this was discussed, I think they have now been deleted as an accessory, but they were around £30 a pair. Oh and they also fit the rear.

I have begun the refurb.
After the first 10 minutes I was wishing I had the cash to get them done professionally! My arms ache from all the sanding!

I bought this lot from Halfords, but found a medium grade sanding sponge best for removing the oxidised areas. I went for a darker BMW Sparkling Graphite...

Halfordsrefurbkit.jpg

First I gave the first wheel a good wash with washing up liquid...

SoapyR32.jpg

Oh, here's the kind of oxidation i'm facing...

OxidationR32.jpg

And the inside...

OxidationR32Inside.jpg

After about 20 minutes with the wet and dry fine grit - slow progress, so switched to medium grit sanding sponge which was much more effective at removing the oxidised areas!..

SandedOxidationR32.jpg

Still plenty more to do at this stage...

After stopping to rescue this chap from the mouth of the neighbour's cat it had got too dark, so I moved everything down to my cabin...

BankVole.jpg

Started work on the inside with the sanding sponge...

And ended up leaving it like this 'cos dinner was ready and my arms were falling off! Dremel perhaps a good plan!

There's still a load of sanding to be done on this one wheel alone before I can even think of de-greasing, applying primer, painting and laquering... and this one doesn't even need filling!

And if I was bothered about these tyres (which i'm not 'cos they're coming off) i'd have had to mask the whole shebang too.
It's labour-intensive!

I'll need to source some centre caps (Audi rings) and I think i'm going to get snow tyres, at least for the fronts! I've also got some good Falken 452s I could use.

I'll update with progress soon.

Some awesome progress there so far fella! Keep it up matey, it's making for a good read so far!

Peace!

Josh.

I'm a sucker for mid and high tops so I'm gonna take a wild guess at airmax? Only because I ain't got a clue haha!

As for the rodent, I wanna say a guinea pig but I know that'd be wrong as that rodent has a tail and I'm pretty sure guinea pigs don't lol!

No bonus points i'm afraid - the rodent was a Bank Vole and the trainers are Nike Air Jordan III (True Blue colourway).

Currently looking to buy a dremel to make removing the oxidised areas much easier!

Ok, after a couple of weekends of not getting much done due to birthdays, and subsequent hangovers, i've made a little progress...

Finished sanding down all the oxidised areas on wheel 1 and sanded the rest a bit to give the primer a nice surface to stick to.

Wheel1-Sandingfinished.jpg

Then gave it a good wipe down with some baby wipes and then with a cloth and degreaser.
Then it was time for some primer, two coats with about 20 mins in between (not worried about the tyres as they're getting scrapped)...

Wheel1-Primered2coats.jpg

Then I turned my attention to wheel 2. This wheel has much less oxidation but one gargantuan kerb mark!
Before...

Wheel2-Kerbing.jpg

Wheel2-Kerbingcloseup.jpg

So I set to work sanding (again) and after a short while (using sanding disc on cordless drill for the flat areas)...

Wheel2-Kerbingsandedcloseup.jpg

And whipped this lot out...

ChemicalMetalkit.jpg

And got to work with it. Put on a first layer and sanded that down, waited 20 minutes and did a second layer...

Wheel2-ChemicalMetal.jpg

Not pretty, yet, but I have faith!

So tonight I should be able to get a coat of paint on wheel 1 and finish sanding wheel 2.

I've just done a refurb on my S3 Avus' and they came out superb!!!!! Highly recommend the wurth silver paint if you're doing them silver :)

Cheers Si.
I've got BMW Sparkling Graphite for the R32 wheels (winter wheels) but i'll be looking for silver for the RSTTs when I do them.

Is the Wurth silver a close match to the RSTT centre caps, does anyone know? Or is there another silver paint that is a good match? I'd rather not have to paint the RSTT center caps if I can help it.

Speaking of centre caps, does anyone know where I can get some for these R32 wheels, but with Audi rings? They're 56mm I think. If I can't find suitable ones i'll sand down the VW ones, spray them, apply Audi rings and laquer 'em.

Final question - can a mod please change the 'Opinions Please' in the title to 'DIY Refurb' or something, as that is the direction the thread has taken! Cheers!

I think they look smashing. If they become surplus to requirements once the rstt's are finished I'll have em off you! (-;
